Requirements
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong taste in consumer mobile products designed for young users.
  • Deep experience designing for Gen Z and an intuitive sense of what will resonate with that audience.
  • A strong consumer social product background, including experience with feeds, reactions, sharing, notifications, or other social mechanics at scale.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A structured design process that explores multiple directions, articulates tradeoffs, and addresses every state, flow, and edge case.
  • Ability to incorporate feedback constructively and focus on the best outcome.
  • Strong presentation skills to explain designs and tradeoffs to engineers and non-designers.
  • Ability to operate independently as a solo designer.
  • Proficiency with Figma and familiarity with AI design and prototyping tools.
  • Deep understanding of mobile product design, including platform conventions, system behaviors, performance constraints, human interface guidelines, and how designs translate into native code.
Responsibilities
  • Own product design end-to-end across the Fizz app, from concept through engineering handoff, for US and international markets.
  • Explore the full solution space from product requirements documents, generate distinct design directions, explain their tradeoffs, and collaborate with the product manager to select an approach.

  • Present designs with clear rationale, incorporate feedback, and iterate quickly to support informed tradeoff decisions.
  • Stay informed about what resonates culturally with Gen Z in the US and globally, and apply that perspective to design decisions.
  • Use AI and rapid prototyping to explore ideas, build high-fidelity interactions, and communicate implementation intent to engineering.
  • Incorporate user research, data, and feedback loops into design iterations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience designing for international or culturally diverse markets, including right-to-left languages.
  • Motion design or prototyping skills to communicate interaction intent beyond static screens.
  • Familiarity with native mobile development.
  • Experience shipping products that Gen Z users actively use and enjoy.

About the company

Fizz builds private, campus-based social networks for Gen Z, using verified school emails to join. Students post and discuss anonymously within their campus groups, and the app recently added a peer-to-peer marketplace for buying and selling. It differentiates itself by tying anonymity to a verified school, pursuing rapid campus-by-campus growth to create dense, local communities, and embedding a marketplace rather than relying on broad, public networks. Its goals are to achieve high campus penetration, foster active local networks, and monetize through marketplace fees and promoted listings alongside user engagement.

What believers are saying

  • July 2026 strategic funding at a $200 million cap validates traction and runway.
  • Fizz now monetizes ads with Sony Pictures, Amazon, Perplexity, and Kalshi.
  • Saudi Arabia hit No. 1 overall in March 2026, proving international demand beyond campuses.

What critics are saying

  • Sidechat litigation since 2023 and July 2026 Maveron allegations drain management and legal capital.
  • Anonymous teen communities invite harassment, safety incidents, and app-store scrutiny before 2027 expansion.
  • Dependence on campus density creates a winner-take-most market; one viral competitor can hollow campuses fast.

What makes Fizz unique

  • School-verification and campus-specific feeds create dense, local network effects competitors struggle to copy.
  • Anonymous posting fits Gen Z campus gossip better than public social graphs.
  • Community moderation plus verified school email keeps conversations authentic and welcoming.

Fizz raises undisclosed funding at $200M valuation cap as college social app eyes global expansion

Fizz, a college-focused social network launched in 2021, has raised an undisclosed strategic investment at a $200 million valuation cap as it pushes into advertising and global expansion. The investment follows the company's $25 million Series B in 2023. The app, which allows anonymous posting and features a marketplace, is now active on over 800 US college campuses with more than one million users. CEO Teddy Solomon said the company is now generating revenue after being pre-revenue during previous fundraising rounds. Fizz is expanding internationally, particularly in the Middle East, where it launched in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait earlier this year. The company is building out its advertising business under new hire Andrew Zalk, working with brands including Sony Pictures, Amazon and Perplexity. Fizz plans to expand beyond colleges in the US in 2027.

Fizz expands globally with successful launch in Saudi Arabia.

Fizz expands globally with successful launch in Saudi Arabia. News summary. Fizz, an anonymous social app initially developed for college campuses, has successfully launched its first overseas expansion in Saudi Arabia. The app quickly became the No. 1 overall on the App Store charts in the country and remains the leading app in the news category. Founded by Teddy Solomon and Ashton Cofer, Fizz aims to evolve from a college-focused app to a generational social product. With a $40 million fundraise and a presence on 700 campuses, Fizz is expanding its Global Fizz feed to include users beyond college communities. The company's strategic expansion into the Middle East was fueled by the region's booming social app environment, highlighted by the popularity of Snapchat, WhatsApp, and TikTok. Fizz has integrated Arabic natural language processing tools and recruited volunteer moderators from the Saudi community to ensure effective content moderation. Despite the challenges posed by Saudi Arabia's strict monitoring laws, Fizz is committed to maintaining compliance with local regulations. Story coverage. techcrunch.com

Fizz CEO on why anonymous social media works for Gen Z

Fizz, a social app targeting college students, is betting that Gen Z wants an alternative to the performative nature of Instagram and TikTok. The platform has become what CEO Teddy Solomon calls "the biggest college social app since Facebook" by focusing on everyday campus life rather than curated highlights. Founded during the pandemic, Fizz uses a hybrid anonymous model combined with hyperlocal focus to capture attention from a demographic typically devoted to established platforms. The app allows students to share the "99% of life that doesn't make it into a highlight reel". Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt, co-founder Solomon discussed why he believes social media has moved away from genuine social interaction. The platform has established itself as the dominant social network across US college campuses.

Campus and Fizz founders share strategies for building lasting communities at Disrupt

Tade Oyerinde, founder of online school Campus, and Teddy Solomon, co-founder of college social app Fizz, discussed community-building strategies at TechCrunch Disrupt. Campus offers associate degrees in information technology and business administration, plus certificates in specialities like cosmetology and phlebotomy. The platform has over 3,000 enrolled students and employs more than 100 professors on at least a part-time basis. Oyerinde announced Campus is launching à la carte courses following employer requests for individual skill training, such as vibe coding. He believes future learners will maintain subscriptions for continuous upskilling. "Everyone in this room, not just two-year degree-seeking people, will be able to go to Campus and learn with us," Oyerinde told attendees, emphasising live online classes taught by experts.
