Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering from an accredited program.
  • At least 10 years of experience designing and implementing control systems for original equipment manufacturer equipment.
  • Experience designing control panels using both relay and programmable logic controller control logic.
  • Experience writing programmable logic controller control logic using Siemens, Rockwell Automation, GE, or Modicon.
  • Knowledge of plant process control and monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of related codes and standards, including the National Electrical Code and National Fire Protection Association standards.
  • Proficiency in technical writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a creative, professional team environment.
  • Ability to travel across borders as needed to support assigned business lines.
  • Ability to perform occasional field work in industrial plant and construction environments.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Design and lay out custom systems for approval and make changes as necessary.
  • Select equipment and design instrumentation and control packages.
  • Interface with the Project Engineer to review P&IDs, process control narratives, and instrument lists.
  • Prepare input/output lists.
  • Prepare specifications and associated bid documents, including cost estimates and project schedules.
  • Analyze project needs, schedules, quality issues, and other factors to ensure cost-effective results and anticipate or respond to potential schedule delays.
  • Interface with control panel fabricators and approve control panel revisions and as-built drawings.
  • Interface with customers and sales representatives to answer design- and performance-related questions.
  • Inspect the final product against project specifications.
  • Interface with Field Service Technicians to analyze field problems and offer solutions.
  • Use pump and fan curves to specify and program variable speed drives and variable frequency drives, and troubleshoot equipment that is not operating according to its curve.
  • Design single-line diagrams, panel layouts, and control panel schematics for fabrication by a panel shop.
  • Program ladder logic or function blocks using Siemens, Rockwell Automation, GE, or Modicon.
  • Program human-machine interfaces using platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell, or Proface when required.
  • Identify and troubleshoot control-panel wiring issues in the field and rectify them without additional assistance.
  • Modify programmable logic controller and human-machine interface programs at customer request on site, along with making field modifications to the control panel.
  • Recommend design improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support the sales team in identifying equipment options and selections during the quotation process and assist field representatives and customers as necessary.
Desired Qualifications
  • Specific experience with burner controllers and safeties, including Honeywell 7800, Siemens LMV5, Allen Bradley, or Modicon.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 86 through the 2023 edition, particularly burner safeties involving pre-ignition purge and related interlocks.
  • Understanding of UL508A and capability to act as a UL508A Manufacturer Technical Representative.
  • Experience designing control logic for safety programmable logic controllers in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Experience operating and controlling pumps, fans, control valves, instrumentation, and associated proportional-integral-derivative control systems.
  • Experience reading and reviewing electrical schematics generated by EPLAN or AutoCAD.
