About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering is preferred, with mechanical engineering preferred.
  • More than 10 years of experience in the petrochemical industry.
  • Experience in onshore oil and gas is sought.
Responsibilities
  • Support an operating refinery and petrochemical complex.
  • Lead the transition from API 580 qualitative or semi-quantitative risk-based inspection to API 581 quantitative risk-based inspection for refinery and petrochemical process units.
  • Implement and validate API 581 risk-based inspection models in GE-APM, ensuring they reflect actual operating conditions, materials of construction, and process chemistry.
  • Assess legacy risk-based inspection studies and inspection plans for migration suitability and regulatory defensibility.
  • Identify data gaps common to brownfield assets, including corrosion rates, inspection history, and damage mechanisms, and define practical remediation plans.
  • Ensure assumptions, damage models, and consequences reflect plant-specific risks, including inventory, toxicity, flammability, and siting.
  • Act as the site risk-based inspection technical authority, providing governance, review, and approval of risk-based inspection studies and updates.
  • Ensure risk-based inspection outputs support regulatory compliance, safe operating envelopes, and optimized inspection intervals without compromising risk.
  • Support audits, regulatory reviews, and internal assurance activities related to risk-based inspection and inspection programs.
  • Lead and support corrosion studies and damage mechanism reviews for crude, vacuum, hydrotreating, hydrocracking, RFCC, reforming, sulfur recovery, and petrochemical units.
  • Validate corrosion rate development and degradation models used in risk-based inspection.
  • Coordinate with site corrosion engineers to ensure consistency between corrosion management plans and risk-based inspection assumptions.
  • Develop and optimize risk-based inspection strategies for pressure vessels, piping, tanks, heat exchangers, and associated static equipment.
  • Ensure inspection plans account for shutdown windows and turnaround planning, online versus offline inspection feasibility, and access, safety, and operational constraints.
  • Support integration of risk-based inspection outputs into inspection execution and long-term maintenance plans.
  • Identify bad actors across refinery and petrochemical equipment populations.
  • Investigate recurring damage, unexpected failures, and high-risk equipment trends.
  • Recommend changes to inspection effectiveness, corrosion mitigation, and operating practices where required.
  • Support site initiatives focused on reliability improvement and loss prevention.
  • Work with Operations, Process Engineering, and Maintenance to ensure risk-based inspection reflects actual operating conditions.
  • Participate in management of change reviews, assessing risk-based inspection impacts of process, feedstock, or operational changes.
  • Support turnarounds by prioritizing inspection scope based on risk.
  • Deliver hands-on training and mentoring to site risk-based inspection, inspection, and corrosion engineers.
  • Develop and deliver training for an operating plant environment covering API RP 580 and API RP 581 application, quantitative risk-based inspection interpretation using GE-APM, refining and petrochemical damage mechanisms, and practical use of risk-based inspection in turnaround and inspection planning.
  • Build long-term risk-based inspection competency and consistency across the site.
