Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Five to ten years of industry experience.
  • Four years of previous product management experience, or at least eight years of underwriting, actuarial, or other industry experience accompanied by at least two years of product management experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of project management.
  • Experience and knowledge of risk segmentation.
  • Experience and knowledge of insurance pricing.
  • Understanding of the operational nature of product implementation and the product life cycle.
  • A track record of prior success with increasing positions of responsibility.
  • Comfort with and adaptability to new technologies.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts in a simple way.
  • Ability to travel on behalf of the company.
  • Ability to effectively manage high-pressure situations.
  • Strong negotiating skills.

Responsibilities
  • Own growth and profitability for the assigned line of business or region, including year-over-year growth targets and developing and achieving the rate plan.
  • Identify and address key concerns, monitor initiatives, track progress and success, and elevate concerns and proposed solutions to the senior leadership team.
  • Oversee vendor management and partnerships for line-of-business and regional initiatives.
  • Identify new focus markets and develop strategies to profitably grow those markets.
  • Lead agent and client workshops to understand client needs and serve as an expert in products and markets.
  • Identify, assess, and implement solutions to control organizational risks, including catastrophe management, reinsurance structure, and agency footprint.
  • Provide the leadership team with periodic industry intelligence on emerging issues.
  • Cultivate a team culture where ideas are welcomed and shared, and provide training and mentoring to other product managers.
  • Review pricing, design features, distribution, marketing, underwriting, and claims factors to make product recommendations.
  • Collaborate across divisions to develop holistic strategies for company success.
  • Work with other areas and information technology to determine project prioritization and implementation.
  • Provide leadership to functional areas related to product design and management, making recommendations based on functional and regional knowledge.
  • Use industry reporting tools to provide competitor insight, market share, and regional or line-of-business performance information to senior leadership.
  • Work with the Business Intelligence team to develop standardized monthly reports measuring growth, profitability, and product development initiatives.
  • Recommend product enhancements and new products based on competitor, field, and client feedback.
  • Work with marketing to identify focus areas and opportunities, and develop plans involving market research and analysis for prospecting initiatives, marketing campaigns, and branding.
  • Support marketing in developing agent- and client-facing collateral.
  • Manage strategies for multiple product profitability objectives and work cross-functionally with underwriting, claims, and agencies to identify loss drivers and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead the coordination and implementation of new products and product changes.
  • Lead product-related internal and external training and education.
  • Develop and execute long-term product business plans that drive profitable local-market growth.
  • Analyze financial results, product profitability, business mix, and competitive information, and design organizational forecasting models.
  • Guide the process of sponsoring and evaluating new tools and technology to enhance product performance and validate effective execution of pricing and product initiatives.
  • Lead and coordinate Growth and Profitability calls and Operational Reviews.
  • Lead and coordinate the Product Development process.
  • Lead cross-functional strategy teams and work with Regional Field Executives to execute strategy.
  • Maintain in-depth understanding of all offered Property and Casualty lines of business, with specific expertise in the assigned line of business or region.
  • Work with the Project Management Organization to build project charters and execution plans for product enhancements and new product offerings.
  • Work with Regional Field Executives and Actuarial to develop annual growth plans by agent, managing general liability agency, state, region, and line of business.
  • Work with the Project Management Organization, information technology management, and business analysts to build annual maintenance schedules for rate and regulatory changes.
  • Work with the Project Management Organization and information technology management to identify and implement technology enhancements within the annual business plan.
  • Develop annual business plans for assigned lines of business or regions, including product development projects, Growth and Profitability actions, and regulatory changes.
