Requirements
  • A current, valid Ohio teaching certification for the appropriate grade and content area is required.
  • NCLB (No Child Left Behind) qualifications must be met at the required time.
  • At least two years of experience teaching the relevant grade or content in a primary school, or equivalent experience, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multicultural population in an urban setting is required.
  • An FBI/BCII background check meeting Ohio Revised Code § 3319.39 et seq. is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement plans for the assigned curriculum program and provide written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Plan and use instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that accommodate the individual needs of assigned students.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Ohio Department of Education, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Circulate, observe, and monitor the classroom during instructional activities.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use the results to guide instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students.
  • Cooperate with staff members in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to state requirements.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology in the teaching and learning process.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving their study methods and habits.
  • Assess student achievement consistently through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned extracurricular activities and sponsor approved outside activities as applicable.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials, and maintain required inventory records.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students and their parents.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service and professional-growth activities.
  • Present information accurately and clearly using acceptable communication skills.
  • Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and centers for primary grades.
  • Participate in the staff development program.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, city, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and other documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the principal or designee.
