Requirements
  • At least 4 years' advisory experience in communications, with a demonstrable interest in and working knowledge of technology policy or regulation
  • Strong knowledge of the media and public policy landscape across the EU and the UK
  • A demonstrable ability to take a strategic approach to communications challenges and opportunities, understanding of how communications can support and advance policy objectives
  • Experience communicating complex topics to non-technical audiences
  • Experience proactively building journalist relationships, pitching stories, and placing earned media coverage
  • Experience building advisory relationships with different stakeholders to deliver strategic counsel and insight
  • Experience working on integrated creative campaigns designed to change perceptions or achieve specific policy outcomes
  • Project management experience - planning and delivering work against agreed goals, timelines and budgets
  • Practical, day-to-day use of AI tools in a professional advisory context – not just awareness of them
  • Experience managing a team and delegating work to the appropriate level
  • Intellectual curiosity to develop subject matter expertise in new topics and share that knowledge with colleagues
  • Collaborative instincts and a genuine commitment to contributing to an inclusive culture
Responsibilities
  • Shape policy communications strategy by working with client team leads to set strategy and define priorities, translating technical and policy concepts into compelling narratives for different audiences – media, policymakers, regulators, and the public – and designing integrated communications plans to guide execution.
  • Advise with strategic judgement by providing recommendations directly to clients - in writing, in meetings, and in high-pressure moments when quick, sound judgement matters. You'll produce compelling briefing materials, speeches, and content for significant communications moments. You'll need to read widely, stay across government consultations, industry news and client challenges, and develop informed perspectives on complex issues. You'll use research and AI tools (eg. Claude, Factiva, Meltwater) to generate insights and support complex deliverables.
  • Use AI to drive better outcomes by regularly using AI tools to improve the quality and efficiency of what you deliver. This means leveraging tools like Claude, Gemini, and our internal AI studio to conduct research, generate insights, and produce analysis at scale and speed. You'll contribute to how we share knowledge about AI across the team and help ensure all outputs meet our quality standards.
  • Drive and deliver client work by managing the work of junior colleagues, creating clear project plans, delegating effectively, demonstrating agility to ensure work is delivered on time and to a high standard.
  • Contribute to business development by understanding how clients generate revenue and ensure our advice supports their business objectives. You'll contribute to how Milltown operates and thrives – whether that's improving team efficiency, identifying new ways to help clients, or using your expertise to unlock opportunities.
  • Build a collaborative environment by giving and receive feedback regularly, actively seek input from colleagues at all levels, and demonstrate allyship to everyone on the team. Creating an inclusive environment where brilliant work happens is everyone's responsibility.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience advising organisations working at the frontier of technology

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Taso's acquisition gave Milltown immediate credibility in European tech regulation and stakeholder mapping.
  • The firm now sells one integrated offer to boards facing AI, platform, and privacy scrutiny.
  • LinkedIn still lists Taso as active in July 2026, signaling retained team continuity and client servicing.

What critics are saying

  • Big Four and elite PR firms can bundle policy work, compressing Milltown's pricing by 2027.
  • If Adobe, Nextdoor, and Niantic shift in-house, Taso's specialty pipeline shrinks quickly.
  • A failed tech-policy cycle or regulatory backlash could make Milltown's acquisition thesis look decorative.

What makes Milltown Partners unique

  • Milltown Partners combined with Taso Advisory in October 2023 for UK and EU tech policy depth.
  • Its mix spans research, communications, policy strategy, intelligence, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Offices in London, New York, San Francisco, Brussels, and Dublin support cross-border influence work.
