About the job

Requirements
  • A B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in computer science or a related field is required.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, including writing clean, efficient, production-ready code, are required.
  • Experience with PyTorch and modern machine learning workflows is required.
  • Systems engineering skills in networking, concurrency, and performance are required.
  • Candidates with a B.S. in a related field must have at least 3 years of full-time work experience; candidates with an M.S. or Ph.D. must have at least 1 year of experience.
  • Experience with robotic arms, embedded systems, or related hardware such as Arduinos and motors is required.
Responsibilities
  • Build and optimize robotics software in Python and C++, including device drivers, control interfaces, and high-level APIs for real-world deployments.
  • Integrate and deploy PyTorch machine learning policies into visuomotor control loops and ensure efficient inference on edge hardware.
  • Design and test policy-learning training pipelines, including dataset preparation, augmentation, and scaling across multimodal datasets such as video, teleoperation trajectories, and sensor streams.
  • Develop teleoperation and autonomy infrastructure, including real-time data streaming, low-latency WebRTC systems, and fallback human-in-the-loop control.
  • Prototype robot capabilities with hardware and research teams, translating experimental ideas into production-ready features.
  • Evaluate and test policies through lab trials and live customer proofs of concept, measuring performance, robustness, and safety at scale.
  • Contribute to cloud and edge scaling efforts, including AWS-based data ingestion pipelines, IoT fleet management, and distributed training and serving infrastructure.
  • Own engineering projects end to end, from design discussions and architecture through implementation, testing, and field deployment.
  • Work cross-functionally with product, research, and customer teams to align systems with real-world needs and customer value.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with real-time systems involving cameras, sensors, or streaming is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, IoT, and WebRTC is preferred.

About the company

Verne Robotics provides AI-powered software for bimanual robot arms to learn and perform new tasks within hours, not weeks. Its Nemo3 system—a dual-arm robot with a 2.5-foot reach and 4-pound payload—uses AI and diffusion models to analyze about 30 minutes of tele-operated data and break tasks into learnable skills that the robot can execute. The company offers a pay-by-the-hour model, avoiding large upfront costs and making automation accessible to industries that require dexterous manipulation, such as meal-kit assembly, packaging, logistics, and biotech lab work. Verne Robotics differentiates itself through fast, data-driven task learning, flexible installation, and a service-based pricing approach rather than traditional, expensive robotic deployments. Its goal is to accelerate and democratize robotic automation by enabling rapid, flexible, and affordable robotic solutions that can be deployed in a variety of settings.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Verne's June 2026 website adds two arm lengths and business savings messaging.
  • Y Combinator listed two open roles in August 2026, signaling active hiring.
  • Fondo's September 2026 coverage says a biotech unicorn already uses Verne production robots.

What critics are saying

  • ABClonal remains the only public customer proof; one failure before 2027 crushes credibility.
  • Small June 2026 team and two-job hiring limit deployment, support, and sales capacity.
  • Pay-by-the-hour robotics leaves Verne exposed if utilization drops below hardware amortization.

What makes Verne Robotics unique

  • Nemo3 trains on 30 minutes of tele-operation data, compressing deployment to four days.
  • ABClonal's 2026 case study shows 5-10 weekly hours saved in cold-chain packaging.
  • YC S25 and on-site reconfiguration position Verne as robotics-as-a-service, not capex hardware.
