IDEXX Laboratories acquires CoVetAI to advance veterinary workflow intelligence.

IDEXX Laboratories acquires CoVetAI to advance veterinary workflow intelligence. Pet Age Staff//September 18, 2026// IDEXX Laboratories, a global leader in pet healthcare innovation, recently announced the acquisition of CoVetAI Inc. (CoVet), a leading and rapidly growing provider of AI-native ambient listening and clinical workflow software for veterinary practices. Serving both multipractice corporate groups and independent veterinary practices worldwide, CoVet helps veterinary teams automatically capture and organize information across the patient care journey, from consultation to treatment planning and client follow-up, reducing documentation burden and saving clinicians' time. The acquisition expands the value of IDEXX's software, diagnostics, and AI offerings by making information more accessible, actionable, and connected across the practice. CoVet will be integrated into the IDEXX software ecosystem, which will continue to support other ambient scribe solutions and third-party integrations. CoVet will also continue to integrate with non-IDEXX practice management systems. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. "Veterinary practices are managing growing complexity and generating more information than ever before, and clinical teams need better ways to capture, connect, and use that information," said Mike Erickson, President and Chief Executive Officer of IDEXX. "CoVet brings leading workflow intelligence capabilities that complement our diagnostic and software ecosystem. Together, we can help veterinary professionals work more efficiently and unlock greater value from information generated throughout the clinical workflow to support expanded patient care." IDEXX is a leader in veterinary software, with more than 10,000 clinics globally using its cloud-based practice management systems. The company has a long history of applying AI and advanced analytics across its portfolio, including the IDEXX inVue Dx Cellular Analyzer, SediVue Dx Urine Sediment Analyzer, ProCyte One Hematology Analyzer, IDEXX DecisionIQ, and IDEXX Web PACS Software. The acquisition of CoVet reinforces software and AI as strategic enablers of diagnostic insights, workflow efficiency, and practice performance. Combined with IDEXX software, diagnostics, clinical decision support tools, and solutions such as the Vello Client Engagement Platform, CoVet creates opportunities for deeper integration of patient information before, during, and after the clinical visit. Over time, these capabilities can help increase diagnostic utilization by surfacing relevant patient insights at key clinical decision points, supporting more personalized client communication, and creating capacity to see more patients. "From the beginning, our mission has been to use technology to give veterinary professionals more time back, for their patients and for themselves," said Yannick Bloem, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CoVet. "We started with clinical documentation, but the opportunity is far greater. AI has the potential to transform the day-to-day experience of practicing veterinary medicine to benefit more pets. With IDEXX, we can bring those benefits to veterinary teams around the world." CoVet's multi-region footprint will also expand and enhance the impact of IDEXX software globally, through integration with IDEXX VetConnect PLUS and by addressing practice team needs in geographies not currently served by IDEXX practice management systems.

IDEXX launches first dual-species point-of-care NT-proBNP test for cardiac disease in cats and dogs. Published: 28 Aug 2026 IDEXX has launched the Catalyst proBNP Test, which the organization describes as the first and only dual-driven, in-clinic test for N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), a biomarker applied to assess cardiac disease in cats and dogs. The test runs on the organization's Catalyst platform, which is intended to deliver laboratory-level precision with immediate outputs. Closing A diagnostic gap in general practice. Cardiac disease affects an estimated 1 in 6 cats and 1 in 10 dogs, but the disorder is frequently underassessed in general practices, according to IDEXX. Much of that gap comes down to admission and workflow: Definitive cardiac workups often depend on echocardiography or referral to a cardiologist, resources that aren't available in each practice. Sonya Gordon, BSc, DVM, DVSc, DACVIM, professor of cardiology at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, said cardiac disease can be difficult to detect early because clinical signs are often subtle or absent completely. "NT-proBNP testing provides valuable, cost-effective insight to help veterinarians identify patients with clinical or subclinical heart disease, support preanesthetic screening, and determine when additional cardiac evaluation is warranted," Gordon said in an IDEXX announcement. "A quantitative NT-proBNP assay at the point of care is an important advancement, bringing objective cardiac biomarker information closer to the patient and enabling immediate integration with the physical examination, history, and other diagnostic findings." Where the test fits in clinical workflow. According to IDEXX, the test is designed to support some common in-clinic scenarios, like detecting subclinical heart disease in cats, informing preoperative risk assessment, and evaluating the likelihood of healthcare-relevant heart changes in healthy small- and medium-breed dogs showing a heart murmur. In both species, the organization says NT-proBNP outputs support differentiating cardiac from noncardiac causes of respiratory distress, a distinction that shapes whether a patient requires cardiac workup, management, or referral vs management for a primary respiratory challenge. Outputs integrate in the VetConnect PLUS alongside a patient's presenting diagnostic history, with built-in interpretive guidance meant to support doctors in reading the NT-proBNP value in context rather than in separation. IDEXX is positioning the test as an postponement of an existing cardiac portfolio that already involves reference laboratory testing, electrocardiography, well-developed imaging, and artificial intelligence-driven diagnostic devices. According to Towards Healthcare, the Veterinary AI Diagnostics Market is projected to grow significantly, with estimates indicating the market size will increase from USD 936.06 million in 2026 to approximately USD 3917.31 million by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 17.25% from 2026 to 2035. Artificial intelligence (AI) is progressively being applied in veterinary therapeutics for day-to-day aspects of care. From helping veterinarians in diagnostics to guiding preventive care and management planning, AI and predictive analytics are reshaping how animal health is advanced. For students preparing to enter the sector, learning how to work with these devices is becoming a significant part of thriving in the future of veterinary therapies. Novel AI-based tools automate tasks, enhance diagnostics, optimize workflow, lower workload, and improve client communication. AI-based technology is increasingly being incorporated into the everyday work of veterinary services. It can analyze a radiograph, ultrasound, or MRI with increased speed and precision. AI-based technology assists with voice-to-text healthcare record-keeping. It supports veterinary solutions by automating appointment scheduling, telemedicine, and inventory management. About IDEXX. IDEXX is a worldwide leader in pet medical care innovation. This company's diagnostic and software products and solutions create clarity in a complex and emerging world. IDEXX Laboratories, Inc., a member of the S&P 500, is a leader in pet medical care innovation, serving veterinarians globally with solutions.
