Requirements
  • Understanding of general foundry concepts, terminology, and scrap defects.
  • General knowledge of process flow and process interactions.
  • Ability to understand blueprints and their concepts, with a basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • General computer knowledge and extensive use of Excel, Access, Outlook, Adobe, and Odyssey computer programs.
  • Ability to follow the company’s quality management system, policies, procedures, safety program, and plant-wide safety rules.
  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, and cut-resistant gloves when handling castings.
  • Ability to obtain assistance when lifting heavy castings.
Responsibilities
  • Collect internal sand samples twice daily as backup, test them according to the company’s sand-testing procedures, record results on the appropriate forms, and distribute them to operations and quality-control management.
  • Send green sand samples to Green Diamond monthly for additional sand testing.
  • Maintain sand-testing equipment and the quality-control laboratory in an orderly condition.
  • Collect metal samples from all furnaces before pouring and throughout the shift, test them on the spectrometer for chemical analysis, and notify the Melt Deck Leader when furnaces do not conform to specifications.
  • Clean and type-standardize the spectrometer daily using ASTM/NIST-traceable standard samples.
  • Prepare test bars and coupons, document heat and lot codes, and send samples to a qualified laboratory for testing.
  • Conduct hardness testing of heat-treated material as required and record and document the findings.
  • Maintain metal records, including material certificates, chemical and physical test results, heat-treat certifications, Brinell and hardness-testing results, melt logs, and pour-temperature logs.
  • Assist leaders in updating and maintaining shop-card information as requested.
  • Distribute shop cards within the department as requested.
  • Collect information from spectrometer, physical-testing, and heat-treat activities; prepare certifications; and distribute them as appropriate.
  • Perform light dimensional measurements and part-characteristic analysis, prepare reports, and distribute them as appropriate.
  • Issue return material authorizations to customers as required, store completed forms, and distribute them to customers and the internal return-material-authorization distribution list.
  • Receive and disposition customer returns.
  • Continuously check casting quality and work with supervisors to correct problems.
  • Train new personnel in assigned aspects of their job descriptions.
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the company’s quality management system manual, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Record starting and finishing times in Shop Floor Manager.
  • Perform other related or assigned job duties.
  • Maintain clear aisles and avoid blocking exits and fire extinguishers.
  • Follow departmental and plant-wide safety rules and procedures.
