About the job

Requirements
  • Significant hands-on experience at Lead/Staff level in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or lab operations, ideally in environmental, analytical chemistry, or high-volume manufacturing settings.
  • Demonstrated experience across hardware and firmware, including building, integrating, and troubleshooting physical systems and instrumentation.
  • Experience mapping, measuring, and optimizing complex, multi-step processes, including cycle time analysis, throughput modeling, and bottleneck identification.
  • A track record of taking a manual or semi-manual process and scaling it toward automation.
  • Ability to define software and data requirements and partner closely with engineers to implement them, without needing to be a software developer.
  • Experience implementing or improving quality systems in a regulated or high-rigor environment.
  • Ability to see the full process pipeline and understand how changes in one step affect the rest.
  • Comfort moving between hands-on hardware/firmware work and higher-level process and software requirements.
  • A data-driven approach to process improvement.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for cross-functional collaboration across lab, engineering, and software.
  • Comfort operating with high autonomy in a fast-moving, early-stage environment.
Responsibilities
  • Own every step of the sample lifecycle, from soil, vapor, and water collection through preparation, processing, analysis, and data delivery in Remedy's Lab and third-party labs.
  • Quantify cycle time, throughput, and failure or rework rates at each step; identify bottlenecks and non-value-add steps that can be removed or simplified.
  • Define and prioritize automation opportunities that improve QA/QC, throughput, and scalability.
  • Work directly with the analytical chemistry team to identify process improvements and tradeoffs.
  • Evaluate, select, and integrate lab automation equipment, including liquid handlers, robotic arms, and automated samplers, to reduce manual touchpoints across the sample pipeline.
  • Partner with hardware and firmware specialists, internally or contracted, to scope custom integrations where off-the-shelf automation does not fit.
  • Work hands-on in the lab to prototype, test, and validate process changes.
  • Define requirements for software that tracks samples, chain of custody, and process/QA data end to end.
  • Partner with the software engineering team to translate process needs into system requirements, workflows, and data models.
  • Identify where software can replace manual steps, reduce errors, and enable remote monitoring or control of processing and lab equipment.
  • Use AI tools, including AI coding tools, to prototype scripts, dashboards, small automations, and AI-assisted analysis to accelerate process and data work.
  • Build the foundation for 24/7 operation of core processing and the Remedy Lab, including automation, staffing, and monitoring needs.
  • Establish and continuously improve QA/QC procedures across the full sample pipeline.
  • Bring process discipline from high-volume manufacturing, environmental, or lab-scale operations to Remedy.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or similar sample-tracking software.
  • Background with analytical instrumentation such as GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-OES, or XRF, or environmental sample chain of custody.
  • Experience scaling a process or facility from prototype/pilot to high-volume, continuous (24/7) operation.
  • Experience coordinating with third-party labs, sample logistics, or environmental regulatory requirements such as EPA, ASTM, or ISO.
  • Experience as an early process or manufacturing hire at a startup.
  • People management or team-building experience.

About the company

Remedy Scientific cleans polluted land using chemistry, AI, and automation to decontaminate sites. What believers are saying

  • The company’s website, updated July 29, 2026, confirms active commercialization efforts.
  • Axios reported end-of-2025 plans for a Bay Area pilot and government contract.
  • Job postings in July 2026 show hiring for backend software powering core workflows.

What critics are saying

  • Remedy Scientific has only $11 million raised since April 2025, limiting field execution.
  • A July 2026 engineering hire signals product buildout, not proven customer revenue.
  • If first pilot sites fail, remediation contractors and regulators will reject the platform.

What makes Remedy Scientific unique

  • Remedy Scientific launched in 2025 with automated land decontamination, chemistry, and AI.
  • Its platform targets PFAS cleanup, a technically difficult niche with entrenched manual incumbents.
  • West Oakland roots and mobile sensing-cleaning units create a productized remediation model.
