Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in physics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant hands-on work experience in a scientific or industrial research environment involving microscopy, ultrafast optics, nonlinear optics, or optoelectronic hardware.
  • Basic programming skills, such as MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, SolidWorks, or computer-aided design.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment involving academic and industrial partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a self-driven, organized, and results-oriented manner.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the conceptualization and design of new multiphoton, high-speed, large-scale in vivo optical neurotechnologies and drive their development, characterization, and applications together with neurobiologists.
  • Redesign and optimize existing optical platforms and co-develop pre-commercial prototypes in close coordination with industrial partners.
  • Adapt or modify existing computational data processing and analysis pipelines.
  • Document work, develop standard operating procedures, draft manuscripts for scientific publications, and train more junior scientists.
  • Support collaborative projects and ongoing technology dissemination efforts.
Desired Qualifications
  • A track record as the lead experimental scientist or engineer for constructing a complex optical, electro-optical, or optomechanical system or instrument.
  • Experience with optical modeling and design software, such as ZEMAX.
  • Experience with ultrafast laser systems.
  • Experience with complex free-space optical systems or fiber optics.
  • Experience with mechanical design and fabrication.
  • Experience with radio-frequency electronics and electronics design.
  • Experience with optomechanical hardware control, including LabVIEW and field-programmable gate array programming.
  • Experience with large-scale data processing and cluster computing.
  • Experience with multiphoton in vivo microscopy, rodents, animal behavior, or computational data processing.
