What believers are saying

  • Baron ETFs surpassed $700 million AUM by 2026-09, with $400 million year-to-date inflows.
  • BCTK benefits from AI enthusiasm, and BCEM opened emerging-markets distribution on 2026-04-09.
  • David Baron and Michael Baron became co-presidents after Linda Martinson’s 2025-11 departure.

What critics are saying

  • BlackRock, Fidelity, and JPMorgan dominate ETF distribution, pressuring Baron’s launches and fees.
  • Ron Baron remains the brand; a succession vacuum deepens after Linda Martinson’s 2025 exit.
  • If ETF flows stall, Baron stays trapped in slow-growing mutual funds and relevance fades.

What makes Baron Capital unique

  • Ron Baron’s 44-year research-driven growth style still anchors the firm’s brand.
  • Baron launched six active ETFs since December 2025, including BCTK and BCEM.
  • Founder-led, concentrated portfolios separate Baron from index-heavy asset managers.

Baron Capital's ETF platform hits $700M in AUM, eyes more launches after AI and SpaceX-focused funds gain traction

Baron Capital, the New York-based investment manager known for its mutual funds, has launched six actively managed ETFs since December 2025, with a seventh planned for June. The company brought in Matt Camuso, a 13-year industry veteran, as executive director and head of ETF solutions in February. The move into ETFs was driven by existing client demand for tax-efficient wrappers and an opportunity to attract new investors. Baron's ETF platform has already surpassed $700 million in assets under management, with over $400 million in year-to-date flows. All Baron ETFs maintain the firm's growth-focused, high-conviction investment philosophy. The Baron First Principles ETF is the largest, whilst the technology-focused BCTK is attracting significant interest amid AI market growth. The upcoming seventh ETF will be called Baron Risk Optimised Large Cap Growth ETF.

Baron Capital reacquires Extra Space Storage shares, eyes 2026 growth inflection as supply moderates

Baron Capital has reacquired shares in Extra Space Storage, a self-storage REIT, anticipating improved fundamentals from 2026 onwards as demand stabilises and new supply moderates. The asset manager highlighted the company's focus on accretive capital allocation, including acquisitions and bridge lending, in its quarterly investor letter. Extra Space Storage's narrative projects $3.2 billion revenue and $1.1 billion earnings by 2029, implying a 2.7% annual revenue decline but earnings growth of $0.1 billion from current levels. Simply Wall St Community estimates suggest a fair value around $152.85 to $158.85. The investment case hinges on whether same-store revenue can reaccelerate from current muted levels, whilst persistent property tax growth and localised oversupply remain key risks. Baron Capital's renewed confidence reflects expectations for a 2026 fundamental inflection point in the self-storage sector.
