Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Two years of lifeguarding experience is required.
  • The candidate must be at least 18 years old.
  • The candidate must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or an equivalent certification.
  • American Red Cross Certification is required within six months of employment.
  • Previous customer service work experience is required.
  • The candidate must understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and social services organization.
  • The candidate must be able to work a minimum of one weekend shift per month.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Aquatics facility in conjunction with or in the absence of the Aquatics Managers.
  • Ensure adequate coverage of all pools and maintain a safe environment while monitoring pool and pool-area condition and cleanliness.
  • Oversee lifeguard staff to ensure proper coverage and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ensure lifeguard rotations maintain optimal surveillance and break periods.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for lifeguards during assigned shifts, providing guidance and support.
  • Ensure lifeguards adhere to uniform and professional appearance standards.
  • Practice and teach safe work habits.
  • Supervise all areas of the Aquatic Center and staff to ensure smooth and safe operation.
  • Enforce aquatic center rules for members, visitors, and employees.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions.
  • Maintain order in swimming areas and maintain constant observation of assigned areas to identify danger.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Provide first aid, rescue breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and automated external defibrillator assistance when necessary.
  • Assist with aquatic programming.
  • Inspect and maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other assigned areas.
  • Set up and break down facility equipment as needed.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of the Swim Meet Timing System.
  • Monitor pool water quality in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Inspect equipment, supplies, and pool apparatus to ensure they are in working condition.
  • Test or provide information for required pool documents daily.
  • Complete facility training and handle designated facility functions, escalating issues as needed.
  • Answer customer questions and provide information about programs.
  • Wear standard apparel prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and maintain a professional appearance while on duty.
  • Attend required staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Learn and adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Carry out The Salvation Army mission in workplace actions and programs.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisors.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous lifeguard supervisory experience is preferred.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Management certification is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to verbally communicate with a diverse audience of members.
