Requirements
  • For the Nurse Practitioner pathway, hold a Master's or Doctorate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Hold a Washington State Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner license with prescriptive privileges for the Nurse Practitioner pathway.
  • Hold national certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner; Family Nurse Practitioners with at least five years of critical care APP experience will also be considered.
  • For the Physician Assistant pathway, hold Washington State Physician Assistant licensure.
  • Hold national certification from a national certifying body such as the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certifications.
  • Be eligible to receive hospital staff appointments for adjunct staff membership under the hospital's Medical Staff By-Laws for hospital-based positions.
Responsibilities
  • Rotate among inpatient services including General Surgery, Medicine Polytrauma Service, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and Burns.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Perform procedures within the scope of licensure and training as appropriate.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe and manage medications.
  • Coordinate patient care with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide patient and family education.
  • Engage in patient discharge planning and follow-up care coordination.
  • Document patient care and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety protocols.
  • Complete learning modules and participate in continuing education.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance as appropriate to other staff and students.
