Requirements
  • An associate's degree in a technical field such as civil, electrical, mechanical, construction, computer aided drafting, electrical trade, or project management, or equivalent related work experience; for Engineering Tech 1, a bachelor's degree may substitute for the associate's degree and work experience.
  • Engineering Tech 1 requires two years of related experience in construction management, civil engineering, computer aided drafting, or electrical infrastructure construction and/or design.
  • Engineering Tech 2 requires three years of related experience in construction management, civil engineering, computer aided drafting, or electrical infrastructure construction and/or design.
  • Senior Engineering Tech requires five years of related experience in construction management, civil engineering, computer aided drafting, or electrical infrastructure construction and/or design.
  • Effective or exceptional verbal and written communication skills, depending on level.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering services for cost estimating, design, work instructions, and coordination of construction and maintenance projects on the company's electric delivery system.
  • Prepare routine construction work requests, including work instructions, construction site drawings, material lists, and engineering calculations.
  • Perform routine field work including locating and sizing services, load determination, utility easement acquisition, staking, and minor survey work.
  • Engage with customer requests and respond to service needs while working with residential and commercial construction developers.
  • Provide routine project management for all project phases, including scheduling, design, estimates, drawings, cost tracking, and project cost projections.
  • Verify and document construction site readiness for backfill, grading, and conduit installation requirements.
  • Provide customers with scheduling notifications and scheduling-change notifications by email, text alerts, and/or phone calls.
  • Support work requests, resolve issues, and ensure crews understand work scope, detail, and structure.
  • Ensure customer inquiries and engineering details adhere to standard operating procedures involving tariff application, extension rules and agreements, service rules, code requirements, service entrance, and metering requirements.
  • Perform emergency response activities, outage response supervisory activities, outage dispatch, downed-wire investigation, and field damage assessment.
  • Evaluate current practices and implement processes, concepts, training, and tools to prevent, detect, and correct human errors affecting safe and reliable electric distribution system operation.
  • Travel and stay overnight as workload dictates.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
