Requirements
  • Possess a Bachelor or Master degree in nutrition from an accredited university.
  • Complete an accredited dietetic internship program or Coordinated Undergraduate Program in Dietetics.
  • Complete 7 hours of HIV/AIDS coursework.
  • Have Washington State registration and certification as a dietitian, or be registered dietitian/certified dietitian eligible with attainment of these credentials within the period stated in the Sea Mar Nutrition Program Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Have Medical Assistant-Registered Certification for Hemoglobin testing for WIC registered dietitians; staff without this certification are required to obtain it after hire or promotion.
  • Demonstrate interest in nutrition services and nutrition education.
  • Follow all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive and seamless services that bridge clinical and self-management aspects of diabetes and endocrinology care.
  • Provide collaborative, comprehensive, and person-centered diabetes care and education that supports behavior change and improved quality of life across the lifespan.
  • Support and advocate for people affected by diabetes to optimize quality care.
  • Promote self-management to achieve individualized behavioral and treatment goals that reduce risks and optimize health outcomes.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date charts, including counseling-session documentation and statistical program records.
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with team members and other Sea Mar staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between Nutrition and/or WIC and other clinic and community services, and make referrals as appropriate.
  • Assist with clerical and statistical program work as needed.
  • Attend selected clinic, MSS, PHS Department, and WIC meetings and participate in continuing education as needed.
  • Act as a preceptor for dietetic interns, as appropriate.
  • Interview clients from diverse populations and review and document client history, anthropometric data, laboratory data, and current eating habits.
  • Use standard assessment tools and department policies to perform screening procedures such as weighing and measuring, taking hematocrits, plotting growth grids, and reviewing dietary evaluations.
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality and document vendor and participant complaints and infractions.
  • Provide program orientation and nutrition requirements, and assist with scheduling client appointments while considering programmatic and client needs.
  • Provide individual and group nutrition education according to program guidelines using client-appropriate methods and materials.
  • Provide Medical, MSS, and patient nutritional assessment and nutrition counseling.
  • Facilitate appointment times through scheduling and follow up on failed appointments according to protocol.
  • Coordinate services with other health professionals and cooperate with other departments.
  • Document assessment, treatment, and the plan of action from counseling sessions in the medical record according to protocol.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a community nutrition setting with an interest in basic nutrition and childhood development is desirable.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish ability is preferred but not required.
