Requirements
  • (Required) Masters degree in African American Studies or a related field, and knowledge of current trends in the discipline, although a doctorate in the discipline is strongly preferred
  • 3+ years professional experience post-college

  • Willingness to travel up to 6 times a year (domestic), with an additional 2 weeks in May/June for the Annual 'AP Reading'
Responsibilities
  • Learn about item development and management from authoring to administration
  • Support training and collaboration with subject-matter experts (SMEs), typically college professors and secondary school teachers on how to author assessment content
  • Understand assessment development protocols, translation between academics and technical experts (psychometricians), and the development of formative assessment materials and resources
  • Learn how to select appropriate stimulus material and apply best assessment practices
  • Support the development and management of all assessment content through iterative review stages with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Understand AP Exam development and alignment with approved curricula and test specifications
  • Support Development Committee meetings and understand how to engage and support these meetings within a discipline
  • Attend and support the scoring of student AP Exams at the annual scoring event in person and online through the AP Reading
  • Contribute to learning and best practices related to assessment by participating in regular discussions with other AP Curriculum & Assessment staff members on the current assessment standards and practices to build a set of common, shared beliefs about AP’s assessment directions within the larger educational and assessment community
  • Contribute to processes for efficient, high quality assessment development
