About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math, or a related discipline, or at least 7 years of related work experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience in design, implementation, operations, or consulting with distributed applications.
  • At least 7 years of technical engineering experience.
  • Experience in a 24x7 operational services or support environment is preferred.
  • Experience in an internal enterprise or external customer-facing environment as a technical lead is preferred.
  • At least 4 years of experience in AI/ML, distributed computing, or GPU-accelerated infrastructure, such as model training, inference systems, or HPC for ML, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SageMaker HyperPod for managed distributed training clusters, including automated health checks, node replacement, and checkpoint-based recovery, is preferred.
  • Experience with HPC job schedulers such as Slurm, PBS, LSF, or EKS for orchestrating multi-node ML training workloads is preferred.
  • Experience with high-performance parallel file systems such as Amazon FSx for Lustre or GPFS/Spectrum Scale for ML data pipelines is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AWS Parallel Computing Service, AWS ParallelCluster, AWS Batch, or equivalent managed HPC/ML cluster services is preferred.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills, including presenting to an audience containing one or more executive team members, are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver strategic technical engagements by leading comprehensive technical deep-dives and performance optimization for enterprise AI/ML workloads, including distributed training cluster architecture using AWS Parallel Computing Service and AWS ParallelCluster, GPU-accelerated computing instances, AWS Trainium-based training, and multi-node NCCL communication tuning over EFA's SRD protocol.
  • Support customers designing and implementing production-grade AI/ML training and inference solutions using Slurm-based job scheduling, distributed training frameworks including PyTorch FSDP, DDP, DeepSpeed, and Megatron-LM, SageMaker HyperPod managed GPU clusters, high-performance parallel storage, and container runtimes on Deep Learning AMIs; validate solutions against reference architectures and the HPC lens for performance, reliability, and cost governance.
  • Architect solutions using P6e UltraServers for multi-trillion parameter frontier models and Trn3 with the AWS Neuron SDK for cost-optimized training and inference.
  • Support customers implementing business-critical HPC capabilities, including development of large language models, physics-informed neural networks, surrogate models, MLOps pipelines, simulation-ML hybrid architectures orchestrated by AWS Step Functions and AWS Batch, distributed data processing, cluster observability, and governance controls for GPU/Trainium-intensive workloads.
  • Partner with service teams to enhance model training throughput, optimize NCCL collective communications, improve GPU/Trainium utilization across multi-node UltraClusters, and drive operational efficiency through proactive monitoring, automated failure recovery, and capacity planning using EC2 Capacity Blocks for ML.
  • Contribute to product roadmaps and product feature requests, and share reference architectures, performance information, and benchmarks with broader technical communities.
  • Develop and nurture technical partnerships with enterprise stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor for AI/ML infrastructure decisions spanning compute, networking, storage, orchestration, and the HPC-to-AI convergence journey.
  • Guide customers through AI/ML model training and inference implementation challenges, including distributed model training on GPU clusters and production-grade inference at scale.
  • Work with appropriate engineers and service teams to resolve customer support issues; help customers design, build, operate, and secure cloud environments.
  • Craft and execute strategies to drive customer adoption and use of AWS services, including EC2, S3, DDB, and RDS.
  • Represent AWS in customer environments and guide senior-leadership discussions regarding incidents, trade-offs, support, and risk management.
  • Provide customer advocacy and strategic technical guidance to plan and build solutions using best practices, and proactively keep customer AWS environments operationally healthy and resilient.
  • Understand customers' business and operational needs and technical challenges to help them achieve value from AWS.
  • Partner with Solution Architects, Frontline Engineers, and service teams to provide AWS AI/ML best-practice guidance; help move AI/ML workloads into production, develop regional AI/ML strategies, advise on HPC-to-AI convergence patterns, and train field teams on distributed training patterns, GPU/Trainium cluster operations, and AI/ML use cases and benefits.
  • Travel 10% or more as needed.

Desired Qualifications

About the Company

Amazon

Sells products online and rents cloud computing

Amazon runs the largest online store in the United States and rents cloud computing to businesses and governments through Amazon Web Services. AWS pioneered renting computing power over the internet, and Amazon built its own delivery network to get orders to customers quickly. Shoppers buy from Amazon and from independent sellers on its store, and Prime members pay a subscription for fast free shipping, streaming video and music, and other perks. AWS rents out computing power, storage, databases, and AI tools so companies can run software without owning servers, and Amazon also makes Kindle e-readers and Echo speakers with the Alexa assistant. Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994, and it is based in Seattle, Washington.
