Requirements
  • At least 5-7 years of manufacturing engineering experience, including direct experience standing up or scaling an assembly line for complex electromechanical or robotic hardware.
  • Experience across the full manufacturing value chain, including Design for Manufacturability, tooling, process development, quality planning, and documentation.
  • Hands-on experience personally building or assembling hardware, including machining, fabrication, wiring, and assembly.
  • Experience implementing quality control systems and driving root-cause analysis and corrective action in a production environment.
  • Experience managing vendors and suppliers for manufacturing inputs and outsourced processes.
  • Ability to work with limited resources and tight timelines while establishing a new manufacturing line.
Responsibilities
  • Own the buildout and scale-up of a full assembly, quality-control, and manufacturing line for robotics hardware, taking it from early low-rate production to a repeatable, higher-volume operation.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturability reviews with engineering and drive upstream design changes that reduce cost, assembly time, and failure modes before hardware reaches the line.
  • Define and implement quality-control processes and inspection criteria at each stage of assembly to ensure hardware built for austere field conditions meets reliability and durability standards before shipment.
  • Design, select, and qualify the tooling, fixtures, and test equipment needed to run the line, working hands-on with technicians to debug and refine processes in real time.
  • Own root-cause analysis and corrective action for build and field failures, feeding fixes back into process and design to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage supplier and vendor relationships for manufacturing inputs, materials, and outsourced processes, holding partners accountable for quality and schedule.
  • Build and document standard work, process travelers, and training materials so the line can scale with new hires without losing quality.
  • Partner with hardware engineering leadership to translate the product roadmap into manufacturing capacity and staffing plans.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience manufacturing hardware intended for austere, field, or defense-adjacent operating environments.
  • Experience with robotics or complex electromechanical systems rather than general consumer electronics.
  • Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma or formal quality systems such as ISO or AS9100.
  • Prior experience building a manufacturing team or line from near-zero rather than improving an existing operation.

TAR builds and operates behind-the-meter power plants for AI data centers that cannot wait out a utility interconnection queue. The company designs islanded microgrids pairing solar, battery storage, and gas peakers, then manufactures, installs, and runs them, handling power electronics, microgrid controls, dispatch software, and site construction in-house. Compared with grid interconnection, which can take years to clear, an off-grid plant can be sited and energized on the developer's own schedule, and TAR says it is working with a large compute provider and targets 5 GW by 2028. Its goal is to remove power as the constraint on AI buildout by owning generation end to end.

Creator economy founders pivot to data centers, raise $27M at $500M valuation to power AI infrastructure

Leonhard Soenke and Patrice Becker, who founded creator economy startup Throne in 2021, have pivoted to launch TAR (Transformative American Resources), a data centre energy startup. The company recently raised $27 million in seed funding at a $500 million valuation from an undisclosed strategic investor. TAR aims to reduce time-to-token for AI models by building modular, behind-the-meter energy systems combining solar, batteries, wind and natural gas. Soenke told Business Insider the shift came from seeking larger impact opportunities, as the creator economy has matured and become crowded. The founders spent six months transitioning Throne to trusted team members before relocating from New York to San Francisco and Austin to pursue the data centre opportunity.
