Requirements
  • A minimum of 3-10+ years of experience in building enclosure design, review, and assessments is required.
  • Candidates must hold a Professional Engineer license or be a Registered Architect.
  • A Master of Science in Civil Engineering, a Master of Science in Architectural Engineering, or a Master of Architecture in Building Science, Building Enclosures, or Historic Preservation is required.
  • Experience with building enclosure design, repair, and retrofit and with the integrated design and delivery of high-performance buildings is required.
  • Experience with exterior wall, below-grade waterproofing, and roofing assemblies is required.
  • Understanding of building science and thermal analysis concepts, including building performance and sustainability modeling, is required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • Experience with computer-aided drafting and design tools is required, including AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, or Grasshopper.
  • Experience with building performance modeling software is required, including tools such as Ecotect, Vasari, EnergyPlus, eQuest, DesignBuilder, DIVA, IES-VE, THERM, SketchUp, or WUFI.
  • Familiarity with building structural systems is required.
  • Experience working on suspended scaffolding and at vertical heights is required.
  • The role requires strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Design new enclosure systems and design repairs for existing enclosure systems.
  • Review enclosure systems for new construction, renovation, and restoration projects.
  • Investigate and determine the service life of building enclosure assemblies.
  • Assess enclosure performance for air infiltration, rainwater control, heat transfer, and vapor transmission.
  • Perform building performance analysis, including daylighting, solar heat gain, thermal energy transfer, and integration of the enclosure with mechanical, lighting, and plumbing systems.
  • Lead projects with internal consultant teams.
  • Assist Senior Project Managers with project tasks.
  • Perform project management duties.
  • Facilitate client meetings and prepare technical presentations for those meetings.
  • Prepare proposals for new project pursuits.
  • Review enclosure details and specifications prepared by other consultants.
  • Work with architects and contractors to develop high-performance details.
  • Research building codes and industry standards.
  • Write assessment reports.
  • Perform field investigations, including water leakage investigations and nondestructive testing.
  • Model enclosure assemblies using different software.
  • Analyze proposed repair and design options.
  • Design and draft repair drawings and details.
  • Prepare construction documents, including repair drawings and specifications.
  • Observe construction and installation of repairs and designs in the field, including quality assurance testing.
  • Prepare site visit reports and meeting minutes.
  • Interact with project clients, subconsultants, and repair contractors.

  • Holding an RRO, RRC, or RWC credential is a plus.
  • Experience with building performance modeling software such as Ecotect, Vasari, EnergyPlus, eQuest, DesignBuilder, DIVA, IES-VE, THERM, SketchUp, or WUFI is preferred.

Walter P Moore has appointed Lee Anne Dixon, PE, PTOE; Rebekah Campbell, PE, CFM; and Rucker Simon, PE, to expanded leadership roles. As Director of Traffic/ITS/Planning, Dixon will guide the practice firmwide, helping clients connect transportation planning with traffic operations, safety, and technology. Posted Wednesday, August 5, 2026 12:00 am Workshop to address high-wind events in communities and public spaces Finding a safe place to wait out dangerous weather is difficult in places susceptible to high-wind events and at times when outdoor recreation exposes more people to peril. These concerns will be addressed at an online workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 12. Shelby Doyle, associate professor of architecture at Iowa State University's College of Design, will present three different models of 3D-printed concrete community storm shelters, and participants will give feedback on changes they would make to the designs so they could be more multifunctional in their communities. Doyle is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, ICON Build and the Walter P. Moore engineering firm on a Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities scoping grant to design printable structures that can withstand winds of up to 250 mph. Through a grant from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Doyle and her Extension partner, Abbie Gaffey, an Iowa State University Extension and Outreach community and economic development field specialist, have provided in-person workshops in the flood-impacted communities of Spencer and Rock Valley in northwest Iowa. "This grant has been an important opportunity to explore how we can translate innovative on-campus design research into resilient public infrastructure for Iowa's communities," Doyle said. In the Aug. 12 online workshop, Doyle and Gaffey engage with communities that have other risk areas, such as youth summer camps, outdoor sports complexes or large RV parks. "Communities need to be thinking about how the need for storm shelters has changed over time with different kinds of storms, more homes being built without basements and community amenities that are more than FEMA's recommended nine minutes away from safe storm shelters," Gaffey said.
