Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • A minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in Employee Health & Benefits consulting, brokerage, or insurance, including direct client-facing account leadership is required.
  • Demonstrated experience operating at the C-suite level in negotiations, strategic planning, and relationship management is required.
  • An active Life and Health License is required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading renewal strategy, vendor negotiations, and complex client issue resolution is required.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make decisive recommendations on difficult problems with limited oversight are required.
  • Deep technical knowledge of the employee benefits landscape, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, voluntary, ancillary, and financial wellness benefits, and the current regulatory environment is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively at the C-suite, internal-team, and front-line-employee levels, are required.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills, including in high-stakes vendor and client conversations, are required.
  • The ability to manage a portfolio of accounts of varying size and complexity, prioritize competing demands, meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, take ownership of work, and adhere to quality standards is required.
  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information is required.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, and Canva is required.
  • Aptitude for learning internal systems, applications, and departmental workflows is required.
  • Willingness to travel to client and prospect sites as required is required.
Responsibilities
  • Own the overall strategic relationship and outcomes for an assigned book of business and serve as the primary executive contact for client decision-makers.
  • Set the multi-year consulting strategy for each assigned client in partnership with the client and internal team, aligning deliverables to client business objectives.
  • Lead resolution of difficult client issues requiring independent judgment and partner with internal experts to provide fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Direct the day-to-day client service team to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery aligned with the agreed strategy.
  • Lead client renewal strategy, including financial analysis, plan design recommendations, vendor negotiations, and stewardship presentations.
  • Conduct executive-level strategic planning meetings.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for the assigned book of business and own resolution through closure.
  • Develop and execute account plans that drive retention and organic growth across the assigned book.
  • Identify and capture new revenue sources within assigned accounts, including additional product lines, voluntary benefits, and specialty services.
  • Lead request-for-proposal and marketing processes for assigned clients and partner with underwriting and specialty teams on proposal strategy.
  • Negotiate contract terms, rates, plans, schedules, resources, and roles and responsibilities.
  • Identify factors influencing business performance and recommend actions to improve profitability and enhance revenue for Marsh McLennan Agency East.
  • Contribute to internal best-practice development and identify opportunities to improve consulting tools, templates, and workflows.
  • Maintain current expertise in the employee benefits landscape, including market trends, carrier offerings, and emerging regulatory developments.
  • Develop and maintain the skills, knowledge, and proficiencies required for consulting, account management, and client strategy.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop junior team members.
  • Manage concurrent client initiatives through strong project management.
  • Use computers and keyboards extensively and perform the physical activities required in an office environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Additional industry designations such as CEBS, GBA, or RHU are preferred.
