About the company

Triple-S Steel sells steel and aluminum to fabricators, manufacturers and other industrial buyers from metal service centers, warehouses that stock and process inventory, across the United States, Canada and Colombia. Its inventory ranges from structural beams, plate and tube to sheet, grating and steel decking in carbon, alloy and stainless grades. Plants cut, drill and mill metal to each order with laser, plasma and saw equipment, so material arrives ready for fabrication on a just-in-time delivery schedule. Triple-S Steel earns money on the metal it sells, pricing each order around its size, the processing required and the freight cost. The company was founded in 1960 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Acquisitions keep coming: Triple-S bought Galveston's Industrial Material in November 2025 and Camden Yards Steel in July 2026.
  • Local drivers get home nightly: one South Houston Class A opening pays weekly with daytime hours and profit-sharing eligibility.
  • Expansion has backing: Triple-S cites a strong balance sheet and ample liquidity to fund continued growth.

What critics are saying

  • Demand follows building and energy cycles: Triple-S says it primarily serves the construction and energy sectors.
  • Yard jobs are physical: one Houston material handler posting requires walking up to 5 miles daily in all weather.
  • Some warehouse work ends late: a Houston opening at oil-field unit Tube Supply runs 3 p.m. to midnight weekdays.

What makes Triple-S Steel unique

  • Family leadership spans decades: the founder's son Gary Stein became president in 1983 at age 22 and is CEO.
  • Copper and brass widen the mix: Pennsylvania-based Hillman Brass & Copper gave Triple-S its entry into red metals.
  • Brands stay separate: Intsel Steel, Alamo Iron Works and Arbor Metals run under their own names within Triple-S.
