About the job

Requirements
  • At least 2 years of hands-on mechanical or electromechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience leading, supervising, or serving as a lead for a production team.
  • Ability to read and build from engineering drawings, bills of materials, and written work instructions.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and torque tooling.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot build and fit-up issues on the floor.
Responsibilities
  • Execute customer orders safely and successfully across assembly, sub-assembly, and final packout operations.
  • Manage daily work prioritization, station assignments, and labor allocation across assembly stations.
  • Balance work across stations to meet build rate, and adjust staffing and sequencing when priorities shift.
  • Track assembly metrics including throughput, build quality, on-time delivery, rework rate, and labor utilization.
  • Maintain assembly tooling, torque tools, lift assists, fixtures, and test equipment in working order, and escalate repairs.
  • Identify and implement process improvements at the station level to reduce build time, motion, and rework.
  • Coordinate with CNC machining, sheet metal, welding, powder coating, and additive teams to sequence incoming parts to the build schedule.
  • Support new product and new program introduction by piloting first builds, timing operations, and refining the build sequence before rate production.
  • Verify kits, hardware, and purchased components are staged and complete before a build starts.
  • Identify shortages early and escalate to procurement and production planning before they stop a station.
  • Maintain point-of-use stocking of consumables and high-use hardware at assembly stations.
  • Verify build documentation matches the released bill of materials and flag discrepancies to engineering.
  • Manage staging, work-in-process, and finished-goods flow through the assembly area to keep the floor clear and organized.
  • Ensure quality standards are met consistently on every assembly, and hold the line on the final inspection gate before shipment.
  • Troubleshoot build issues on the floor including fit-up problems, missing or incorrect hardware, damaged parts, and drawing ambiguity.
  • Verify torque-critical fastening is performed to specification and that torque tooling stays within calibration.
  • Perform or coordinate first-piece verification on new assemblies before releasing them to rate production.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures and work instructions for assembly processes.
  • Support ISO 9001 compliance through proper documentation, records, and quality controls.
  • Manage the rework and repair loop, and feed root causes back to the upstream process rather than absorbing them in assembly.
  • Partner with quality engineers to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor assembly operators and sub-assembly technicians.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Own ergonomics and safe manual material handling practices on the assembly floor, including proper use of lift assists and team lift procedures.
  • Build team capabilities through training, cross-training, and skill development so no station depends on a single person.
  • Manage interpersonal dynamics to drive team collaboration and output.
  • Provide input to the Subtractive Manufacturing Manager and production planning on assembly capacity, staffing needs, and tooling requirements.
  • Escalate constraints and schedule risk early with enough detail for others to act.
  • Coordinate with the Customer Success team on build status, timeline expectations, and assembly requirements.
  • Work with quality engineers on continuous improvement initiatives affecting assembly.
  • Partner with shipping and receiving on packout, protection, and shipment readiness of finished assemblies.
  • Collaborate with facilities and equipment management on workstation layout, tooling, and maintenance needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 4 years of assembly experience, including sub-assembly and final assembly of multi-component products.
  • Experience in contract manufacturing or high-mix, low-volume production environments.
  • Experience standing up new assembly cells, stations, or lines.
  • Familiarity with line balancing, takt time, standard work, and cycle time measurement.
  • Lean manufacturing, 5S, and kaizen experience; Six Sigma Green Belt or similar process improvement certification.
  • Experience with torque-critical fastening and torque tool calibration control.
  • Experience with kitting, point-of-use material replenishment, and shortage management.
  • Ability to interpret GD&T on assembly and weldment drawings.
  • Experience with digital or paperless work instruction systems.
  • Exposure to ergonomic risk assessment and manual material handling controls.
  • ISO 9001 quality management system experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

About the company

Amazon runs the largest online store in the United States and rents cloud computing to businesses and governments through Amazon Web Services. AWS pioneered renting computing power over the internet, and Amazon built its own delivery network to get orders to customers quickly. Shoppers buy from Amazon and from independent sellers on its store, and Prime members pay a subscription for fast free shipping, streaming video and music, and other perks. AWS rents out computing power, storage, databases, and AI tools so companies can run software without owning servers, and Amazon also makes Kindle e-readers and Echo speakers with the Alexa assistant. Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994, and it is based in Seattle, Washington.

What believers are saying

  • AI drives growth: AWS's AI and custom-chip sales each more than doubled, passing $25 billion a year by June 2026.
  • Stock grants gained value: shares hit a record in August 2026, making Amazon the fifth company to reach $3 trillion.
  • Ads are a third engine beside stores and AWS: they grew 26% to $19.8 billion in the June 2026 quarter.

What critics are saying

  • AWS's lead is shrinking: in the June 2026 quarter, Google Cloud grew 82% and Microsoft's Azure 43%, versus AWS's 37%.
  • Job security has slipped: Amazon cut 30,000 corporate jobs in October 2025 and January 2026 to reduce management layers.
  • Expect five office days a week: Amazon ended its three-day hybrid policy for corporate staff in January 2025.

What makes Amazon unique

  • Most of Amazon's profit comes from cloud: AWS made 21% of sales but 60% of operating profit in mid-2026.
  • Amazon is America's biggest parcel carrier by volume: it handled 6.9 billion packages in 2025, more than the Postal Service.
  • Writing matters more than slides: Amazon meetings open with silent reading of a six-page memo instead of PowerPoint.

Amazon shares rise 0.63% as Anthropic filing shows $110B in commitments

Amazon shares rose 0.63% to $249.56 on Monday at 10:10 EST, as Anthropic's public IPO filing drew fresh attention to Amazon's role as both investor and computing supplier. Reuters previously reported that Anthropic committed at least $110 billion to Amazon under long-term infrastructure agreements. Such commitments take time to turn into revenue. In the second quarter, Amazon's sales climbed 20% to $200.6 billion, and AWS revenue rose 37% to $42.2 billion. Earnings included $53.4 billion in non-operating pretax income, mainly from Anthropic investments. Heavier AI infrastructure spending pushed trailing 12-month free cash flow to negative $7.6 billion. The shares sit 1.12% below the GF Value estimate of $252.39.

Amazon's Jassy says AI inference is 10x too costly, bets on own chips amid $220B capex

Amazon chief executive officer Andy Jassy says AI inference is still "an order of magnitude too expensive" for widespread use. On The a16z Show, he said Amazon's chips business is "a big piece" of the fix. Jassy sees the biggest future demand in everyday business software that has yet to adopt AI. Amazon built its Graviton processor after similar problems with Intel, and Trainium follows that path. Jassy said Trainium offers 30% to 40% better price-performance than comparable processors. The stakes are high. Amazon expects about $220 billion of capex in 2026, and its free cash flow was a $7.6 billion outflow over the 12 months to June 30, 2026. Amazon reports third-quarter results on October 29.

Meta falls 7% as $34.9B capex tops cash flow; investors punish AI spending cuts and hikes

Meta shares fell 7% on October 22 even though third-quarter sales rose 26% and beat estimates. Capital expenditure of $34.9 billion topped operating cash flow as AI spending outran the company's cash generation. MetLife's Drew Matus says investors punish both capex cuts and hikes. "I don't actually really know what people want from these people," he said. Microsoft and Alphabet report Wednesday, followed by Amazon and Intel on Thursday. The four make up about 15% of the Nasdaq 100, which has fallen roughly 7% this month. The Federal Reserve decides on rates Wednesday afternoon, hours before Microsoft and Alphabet report. Matus expects it to skip a move and revisit policy in December.

Amazon's $74.99 Bee Frontier AI wearable hides a $143.88-a-year subscription bet

Amazon has launched the Bee Frontier, a $74.99 AI wearable that clips to clothing or is worn on the wrist. It listens to conversations and uses AI to create to-do lists, summaries, and reminders. The bigger bet is the subscription. Bee Pro costs $11.99 a month, or $143.88 a year, and adds Alexa+, Amazon.com links, third-party apps, and a personal AI assistant. Amazon says the Amazon.com link can suggest products mentioned in conversation. Amazon also launched the $99.99 Bee Eclipse, a credit card-sized model with over 21 days of battery life. Amazon says neither device stores raw audio, and transcripts are encrypted with user-managed keys. Amazon acquired Bee in 2025 and has not said how many users pay for Pro.
