Sales in emerging categories like AI glasses and health rings more than doubled. Best Buy beats Q2 expectations, raises outlook to $42.8B amid computing sales jump

Best Buy exceeded Wall Street expectations in its second quarter, posting same-store sales growth of 4.1% against estimates of 1.6%. Revenue reached $9.8 billion, surpassing the expected $9.6 billion, whilst adjusted earnings hit $1.47 per share versus the anticipated $1.38. Computing proved the strongest performer, with sales jumping 6.8%. The company raised computing prices by mid-teens percentages due to higher memory costs, though unit sales declined by high single digits. Best Buy raised its 2027 revenue guidance to between $42.3 billion and $42.8 billion, up from previous guidance of $41.2 billion to $42.1 billion. Adjusted earnings expectations increased to $6.70–$6.90 per share, from $6.30–$6.60. CEO Corie Barry will step down at the end of Q3, with Jason Bonfig succeeding her on 31 October.

Best Buy expected to post modest growth with EPS of $1.35–$1.37 on $9.5B revenue as analysts eye margin gains

Best Buy's recent quarterly earnings were expected to reach approximately $1.35–$1.37 per share on roughly $9.5 billion in revenue, representing modest year-over-year growth. Analysts highlighted potential margin improvements and operational efficiencies as key factors in converting small revenue gains into higher profitability. The company's investment narrative centres on turning modest sales increases into healthier profits through better execution and higher-margin services. Best Buy's projections estimate $43.2 billion in revenue and $1.5 billion in earnings by 2029, requiring 1.1% annual revenue growth. The appointment of Anne Bramman as incoming chief financial officer could prove significant for maintaining cost discipline and margin improvement. However, pricing pressure and mix shifts remain key risks to profitability. More optimistic analysts forecast revenue around $44.1 billion and earnings near $1.6 billion by 2029, contingent on marketplace growth and sustained margin gains.

Best Buy hires former Nordstrom CFO Anne Bramman with $950K salary

Best Buy has appointed Anne Bramman as its next CFO, effective 19 August. The 58-year-old retail veteran previously served as CFO at Nordstrom from 2017 to 2022 and most recently worked as a senior adviser at Boston Consulting Group. Bramman replaces Matt Bilunas, who left on 31 July. CEO Corie Barry is serving as interim CFO until Bramman arrives. Barry will be succeeded by Jason Bonfig as CEO in November. Bramman's compensation includes an annual base salary of $950,000, a sign-on cash award of $500,000, and equity valued at $1.25 million. Telsey Advisory Group called the appointment a strong pairing with incoming CEO Bonfig, praising Bramman's fresh perspective and retail expertise.

Best Buy's new CEO plans smaller stores to reach underserved markets

Best Buy's incoming CEO Jason Bonfig plans to open compact stores of 12,000 to 15,000 square feet in markets too small to support the company's traditional 40,000-square-foot locations. The strategy aims to reach customers in towns and neighbourhoods previously served only online, if at all. The company recently opened two smaller-format stores in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Bonfig, who becomes Best Buy's sixth chief executive on 1 November, emphasises these compact locations will add to the existing fleet rather than replace larger stores. The move is part of a broader shift positioning Best Buy as a retail, media, advertising, and technology company. In the first quarter of fiscal 2027, Best Buy posted enterprise revenue of approximately $8.94 billion with comparable sales rising 2 percent.
