About the job

Requirements
  • At least one year of experience working directly with children or related experience in a childcare setting.
  • A diploma in a childcare-related field such as Early Childhood Education is an advantage; diplomas in Child & Youth Worker, Child and Youth Care, Education Assistant, Social Worker, or Recreation & Leisure may also be considered.
  • Membership in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators is preferred but not required.
  • Standard First Aid certification with CPR Level C.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
  • Up-to-date immunization for TB, Tetanus, and MMR.
  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Education's How Does Learning Happen framework is an asset.
  • Willingness to work on call with flexible scheduling and availability for a minimum of three days per week, Monday to Friday, within 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, flexible environment with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to be assigned to multiple locations with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Report to assigned childcare centres to support full-time and part-time staff.
  • Establish goals, plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities that support children's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional growth in line with the How Does Learning Happen framework.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children while fostering professional relationships with Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board faculty.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with school-age children is preferred but not required.
