About the company

Intel designs and manufactures semiconductor chips, with a focus on microprocessors for personal computers, servers, and other devices. Its core product is the CPU on a single silicon chip, which executes instructions, handles arithmetic and logic operations, and coordinates the work of other computer components. Intel originated in memory chips but shifted decisively to microprocessors in the 1980s, becoming a central supplier for the PC era after the IBM partnership and its famous x86 processor line. This shift, large-scale manufacturing, and close ties with computer makers set Intel apart from competitors who remained focused on memory or other components. The company aims to power computing by delivering high-performance, energy-efficient silicon solutions that drive a wide range of computing devices and applications.

Intel tax breaks cost Oregon and New Mexico communities $1.2B since 2015, report claims

Good Jobs First, a non-profit that promotes accountability in economic development, says Intel's property tax breaks have cost communities in Oregon and New Mexico more than $1.2 billion in lost revenue since 2015. Schools bore most of the shortfall. In Oregon, tax abatements exempted Intel from at least $1.14 billion, and Hillsboro schools lost $891 million from 2017 through 2025. Intel paid the state $552.4 million in fees over the period. In New Mexico, exemptions came to $99.6 million since 2017, and Rio Rancho's public schools lost an estimated $43.4 million. Intel made $41.6 million in payments in lieu of taxes. The group notes Intel also won billions in CHIPS Act funding and laid off more than 4,700 workers at the two sites over three years. Intel said it works with governments to use incentives and offered no further details.

Symbolic Mind and Intel bring AI training and inference to CPU servers with Charm AI

Symbolic Mind, an enterprise AI platform company, has worked with Intel to train and run its Charm AI language model entirely on CPU servers. It completed a proof-of-concept on Intel Xeon 6 processors and is now taking the result to market. The company says its Deep Control architecture cuts training and inference costs by an order of magnitude. Charm AI keeps data, models, and intellectual property inside the customer's own environment, and improves as new data is added. Symbolic Mind plans to sell through hyperscaler marketplaces, on-premises deployments, and standalone server appliances, aiming at regulated sectors such as finance, insurance, and healthcare. It also plans an "AI-Ready Rack," a turnkey option for firms that want to train and run their own models.

Intel unveils Crescent Island GPU and Xeon racks for agentic AI inference

Intel (NasdaqGS:INTC) has introduced Crescent Island, a new GPU D-series built for large-scale, memory-heavy agentic AI inference. It also revealed Xeon-based rack designs that pair with the GPUs for dense data centre deployments. The company said it will focus on open ecosystem partnerships and Day 0 software support for emerging open-source AI models. The launch gives Intel a specific product for agentic AI and long-context inference, placing it alongside Nvidia and AMD in large data centres. Analysts have flagged high capital spending and loss-making foundry operations as key risks, so investors will watch whether the products win real volume and ecosystem share.

Meta falls 7% as $34.9B capex tops cash flow; investors punish AI spending cuts and hikes

Meta shares fell 7% on October 22 even though third-quarter sales rose 26% and beat estimates. Capital expenditure of $34.9 billion topped operating cash flow as AI spending outran the company's cash generation. MetLife's Drew Matus says investors punish both capex cuts and hikes. "I don't actually really know what people want from these people," he said. Microsoft and Alphabet report Wednesday, followed by Amazon and Intel on Thursday. The four make up about 15% of the Nasdaq 100, which has fallen roughly 7% this month. The Federal Reserve decides on rates Wednesday afternoon, hours before Microsoft and Alphabet report. Matus expects it to skip a move and revisit policy in December.
