Procreate builds creative software for iPad and iPhone, including Procreate, Procreate Dreams, and Procreate Pocket, used by millions of artists. The apps are designed for drawing and painting with a fast, responsive brush engine, robust layers, and Apple Pencil support, running efficiently on Apple hardware to deliver a smooth, intuitive experience. They achieve this through a small, tightly integrated team structure, long-term technology bets, and relentless performance tuning, producing tools that are easy to learn and satisfying to use. The company differentiates itself by its independent ownership, Australia-based culture, and emphasis on word-of-mouth adoption rather than sales funnels, focusing on delivering quality that artists value. Its goal is to provide reliable, powerful creative tools that empower artists to express themselves and create celebrated work, while growing a sustainable business and maintaining a strong, collaborative engineering culture.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Procreate's March 2026 Mac announcement opens a new desktop market beyond iPad.
  • The July 2026 Beginners Series lowers adoption barriers and expands classroom and self-taught users.
  • Procreate Dreams and Procreate 6 updates extend retention while Phoenix technology matures.

What critics are saying

  • Procreate Mac and Procreate 6 slipped to 2027, leaving Adobe more time to attack.
  • Generative-AI rejection narrows feature parity; competitors will pitch faster workflows through 2026.
  • Apple platform dependence creates existential risk: any iPadOS policy change can crush distribution.

What makes Procreate unique

  • Procreate's August 2024 AI refusal and July 2026 policy still protect human-first branding.
  • The iPad-only, one-time-purchase model differentiates it from Adobe's subscription-heavy creative suite.
  • Procreate's privacy promise—no art access, no activity tracking—builds trust with artists.

Procreate App Takes Stand Against Generative Ai, Shunning Adobe’S Approach

Decrypt’s Art, Fashion, and Entertainment Hub. Discover SCENE"I really fucking hate generative AI," James Cuda, CEO of Procreate, declared in a video posted on X, marking a clear stance on what his app company thinks about Generative AI technology. His statement marks a stark departure from the AI-embracing stance of competitors in the space."I don't like what's happening in the industry, and I don't like what it's doing to artists," he continued, announcing that the popular Procreate app for iOS devices won't be jumping on the generative AI bandwagon.ADADThe company doubled down on its position with an official statement published on its website titled “AI is not our future.”"Generative AI is ripping the humanity out of things,” the statement reads. “Built on a foundation of theft, the technology is steering us toward a barren future.” The company said generative AI is a “moral threat” to human creativity and assured users it will not adopt the technology, it will not access their data, and it will not track their activity—addressing the main concerns that users of design software giant Adobe protested a controversial change in its terms of service earlier this year.Adobe faced a major backlash over its generative fill feature as users shared concerns about the company having access to their outputs to train AI models. Adobe came up with a clearer license weeks later, but it was difficult undo the damage caused by a PR disaster.First Adobe changed their Terms to give themselves a permanent license to any content you produce using their software. Then they pretended it was a misunderstanding
