Requirements
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and components.
  • Experience with layout and the design process using computer-aided design software for component creation.
  • Experience creating two-dimensional detail drawings for fabrication parts and assemblies.
  • Experience creating three-dimensional parametric solid models that are fully constrained.
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required, with either 1+ years of relevant experience for the Intermediate Professional level or 3+ years of relevant experience for the Advanced Professional level, or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted for the advanced level.
  • Must be a United States citizen to apply.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a government security clearance and comply with applicable background investigation requirements.
  • Must participate in the Applied Research Laboratory drug testing program and comply with applicable electronic and physical monitoring requirements for federal contractors.
Responsibilities
  • Provide mechanical design support for research engineering programs while collaborating with research and development engineers and engineering support teams.
  • Create intermediate three-dimensional solid models for fabricated parts, assemblies, and commercial off-the-shelf parts using accepted standards, methods, and techniques.
  • Create two-dimensional detail drawings and schematic or bill-of-material documents for intermediate fabrication of parts and assemblies using accepted standards, methods, and techniques.
  • Resolve issues related to design, materials, and components.
  • Perform Service Center functions, including documentation control, copying, archiving .stp and .x_t files, and database entry.
  • Provide work status updates to senior staff and engineers and participate in meetings and design reviews.
  • Use the Applied Research Laboratory's Project Lifecycle Management software, Teamcenter, to perform configuration management and archive design documentation.
  • Complete required compliance training related to business systems, safety, and security.
  • Develop knowledge of design software features, techniques, standards, and specifications, particularly American Society of Mechanical Engineers Y14.5.
  • Work in a secure information environment involving Unclassified, Controlled Unclassified Information, and Classified information.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Siemens NX computer-aided design software.
  • Experience with the Siemens Teamcenter Project Lifecycle Management tool.
  • Certification in or familiarity with American Society of Mechanical Engineers Y14.5.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Adobe.
  • Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher.
