Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and the role of the interprofessional team is required.
  • Ability to complete delegated tasks within the scope of the role is required.
  • Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, with the ability to apply this knowledge to patients daily, is required.
  • Knowledge of risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks is required.
  • Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and designated care partner in care is required.
  • Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively is required.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, with the ability to accurately transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication behaviors, is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required upon hire.
  • The ability to lift and carry 40–50 pounds, push or pull patients on beds or stretchers, perform lateral transfers involving up to 50 pounds of patient weight, and frequently or continuously stand and walk is required.
  • Patient-care providers may be required to kneel, bend, squat, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Responsibilities
  • Communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patients, families, and designated care partners.
  • Perform validated and designated direct and indirect patient-care activities under the direction of licensed clinical team members.
  • Promote and maintain a safe patient-care environment.
  • Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations.
  • Conduct assigned patient rounds, anticipate patient needs, and promptly answer or respond to patient call lights or pages.
  • Facilitate virtual safety associate duties as needed based on campus needs.
  • Under the direction of a distant provider, facilitate clinical examinations using required peripheral devices, video-conferencing equipment, and software such as Epic and Vidyo to support comprehensive virtual-care encounters.
