About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Relevant experience in a temporary student employment environment, such as an internship, co-op, or extracurricular team activities, or experience as an early-career professional in a relevant technical discipline area is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools is preferred.
  • The position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate product problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action, own problem resolution, and document results with guidance from more experienced team members.
  • Work in business processes such as Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), or Current Product Support (CPS), and execute technical processes such as Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, and Failure Incident Review Group (FIRG) using 7-step problem solving, design review checklists, and other specialized tools.
  • Obtain stakeholder input from technical managers, project leaders, product and manufacturing engineers, and supplier partners to deliver information and recommendations that support quality product decisions.
  • Apply academic knowledge and existing experience to make decisions that progress projects while maintaining quality expectations, including decisions about project details, analysis or test work instructions, and cross-disciplinary coordination.
  • Own problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems, or services, with technical complexity and ambiguity increasing as experience is gained.
  • Independently execute established work processes and systems while developing technology or product knowledge, and contribute to improving systems and processes.
  • Coordinate and direct work among technicians and temporary student employees as needed.
  • Analyze technical data using descriptive statistics, probability distributions, graphical analysis, statistical inference, analysis of variance, regression, and design of experiments to support data-based decisions.
  • Translate stakeholder value-package requirements into virtual designs and communicate design capability through cross-functional design reviews.
  • Specify software features and control system architectures for product systems, and configure or understand open- and closed-loop feedback controls and hardware-software interactions.
  • Design mechanical systems and concepts to meet customer requirements and lifecycle needs across operating environments.
  • Create product specifications using solid models, configured engineering bills of material, and detailed drawings, applying applicable standards for manufacturing and inspection.
  • Establish product artifact baselines and manage the release, tracking, control, communication, and integrity of product changes from concept to obsolescence.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, execute, monitor, and communicate product development activities across functions, managing resources, quality expectations, risks, and product capability over the product lifecycle.
  • Identify and mitigate potential product failure modes and causes by analyzing interfaces, functions, requirements, interactions, control factors, and noise factors.
  • Use or interpret computational tools and methods to predict product functional capability against system, subsystem, and component requirements.
  • Identify and analyze product interfaces and interactions, specify requirements and limits, control interactions across system boundaries, and create integration plans.
  • Solve product problems by determining assignable causes, implementing robust data-based solutions, and identifying systemic root causes and actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop product validation plans, manage product risk and priorities, negotiate requirements against capability, evaluate analytical, simulation, and physical test results, and document recommendations supporting product decisions.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable system requirements, establish acceptance criteria, track requirements through the system lifecycle, assess change impacts on project scope, schedule, and resources, and maintain links to related artifacts.
  • Define system boundaries, context, interfaces, lifecycle, scope, and deliverables; analyze interactions among system elements to understand and predict system behavior and devise modifications.
  • Document technical information and communicate it to stakeholders to improve technical productivity and knowledge transfer.

Desired Qualifications

  • A relevant postgraduate Master's degree may be required for select roles.
