Requirements
  • The candidate must have at least 4 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, focused on protection and control equipment for high-voltage utility, cooperative, power-generation, federal, or municipal clients.
  • The candidate must hold a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • The candidate must have proven experience with transmission and distribution relays, including SEL, General Electric, ABB, and Westinghouse equipment.
  • The candidate must be familiar with test equipment including Doble 6150, Powercomm PCA-4125A, Arbiter 931, Vanguard CT 2000C, and Omicron CT analyzer.
  • The candidate must have experience using test software such as RTS, ProTest, or Protection Suite.
  • The candidate must have experience developing detailed commissioning test plans.
  • The candidate must have experience performing relay end-to-end testing to verify communication-assisted tripping schemes, including differential, DCB, POTT, and transfer trip.
  • The candidate must have a strong understanding of safe work practices and human performance improvement applicable to protection and control work in utility high-voltage substations.
  • The candidate must be capable of performing in-service load checks for new equipment to validate correct operation.
  • The candidate must be familiar with NERC PRC-005-6 requirements related to protection systems, automatic reclosing, and sudden-pressure-relaying maintenance.
Responsibilities
  • Promote safe working practices and human performance improvement daily.
  • Lead or participate in completing Job Hazard Analyses with the assigned team each workday.
  • Perform installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relay equipment, powerline carrier equipment, digital fault recorders, and remote terminal units.
  • Perform functional testing for protection and control circuitry associated with transmission lines, high-voltage buses, transformers, circuit breakers, feeders, reactors, and capacitor banks.
  • Perform end-to-end testing of communication-assisted tripping schemes for fiber systems and powerline carrier systems using RTS, ProTest, or Protection Suite software.
  • Test and calibrate General Electric and Westinghouse/ABB electromechanical relays.
  • Commission SEL microprocessor relays, including 311C, 311L, 387, 411L, 421, 487B, 487E, 487V, 587, 587Z, and 787.
  • Commission General Electric microprocessor relays, including C30, D60, F35, L90, T35, and T60.
  • Support remote terminal unit upgrade projects for various clients.
  • Document and submit test reports for client reporting and regulatory purposes.
  • Interpret one-line, three-line, wiring, and schematic diagrams and identify discrepancies.
  • Complete time and expense reports accurately and maintain the assigned company vehicle in good condition.
  • Provide oversight of protection and control technicians and engineers.
