Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician Program.
  • Eligibility to sit for the LCC-ST certifying examination.
  • Certification as an Operating Room Technician (LCC-ST) plus one year of related experience is preferred.
  • The role requires constant walking, bending, stooping, and standing for long periods.
  • The role requires pushing and pulling heavy objects such as gurneys, patient beds, and operating room beds.
  • The employee must maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
  • The employee must have understanding, patience, and tact when dealing with physicians and fellow workers.
  • The employee must pay attention to detail.
  • The employee must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • The employee must be self-motivated and work efficiently and effectively.
  • The employee must work in the specified air-conditioned environment and wear hospital-provided scrub attire while on duty.
  • The employee must be willing to work with employees at various levels of skill, knowledge, and ability.
Responsibilities
  • Perform duties under the direct supervision of the professional nurse to assist with surgical procedures and related operating room activities.
  • Deliver care according to the Association of Surgical Technologists’ Recommended Standards of Practice in a cost-effective manner without compromising quality of care.
  • Apply knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technology to facilitate physicians’ invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in scrubbing for minor and major surgical procedures and endoscopic surgical procedures.
  • Participate in departmental quality assessment and improvement activities.
  • Meet hospital continuing education and certification requirements.
  • Participate in student teaching activities.
  • Uphold Patient Care Services philosophy and objectives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Association of Surgical Technologists’ Recommended Standards of Practice and AORN’s Age Specific Competency Statements.
  • Demonstrate professional growth and development.
  • Perform according to operating room policies and procedures, with performance observed by the Nurse Manager and/or Educational Specialist.
