About the job
- Certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
- An active and unrestricted license to practice as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in New York State is required.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
- Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification, or willingness to obtain it before starting, is required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively is required.
- Provide occupational therapy services according to the established Plan of Care developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Assist patients in developing, improving, or restoring functions in activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, mobility, and home safety.
- Implement therapeutic activities, adaptive techniques, and equipment training under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.
- Observe and document patient progress and communicate changes in condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist and interdisciplinary team.
- Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences and supervisory support as needed.
- Educate patients and caregivers on techniques to improve safety, independence, and function at home.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic documentation in compliance with agency, state, and federal guidelines.
- Comply with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations and policies.
- Travel to patient homes within assigned geographic areas as indicated.
- Previous experience in home health or geriatrics is preferred but not required.
