About the job

Requirements
  • Staff-level engineering judgment, whether or not the candidate's current title says Staff.
  • Strong hands-on coding ability and architectural judgment across production systems, AI applications, infrastructure, agents, or product engineering.
  • Demonstrated rapid growth, increasing responsibility for harder problems, and trustworthiness with ambiguous technical work.
  • Active use of and experience building with AI systems, including understanding their capabilities, failure modes, and product possibilities.
  • Ability to connect technical decisions to user value, customer deployment, product credibility, and business priorities.

  • Turn product and customer signals into clear technical plans without waiting for complete requirements.
  • Own and ship meaningful production work during the first 30 days.
  • Create clarity around a major technical lane or pod.
  • Reduce a roadmap or execution bottleneck without adding management overhead.

About the company

Thorin provides an AI-driven platform that automates organizational workflows to boost leadership productivity in large enterprises. It converts time-intensive, multi-step processes into automated actions using a man-machine symbiosis that blends an ontology-first framework with LLM orchestration. Features include routing communications, identifying sensitive information, delegating reply ownership, suggesting draft responses, and tracking key workflows without adding extra email traffic. It targets executives in defense, logistics, life sciences, and healthcare to improve operational efficiency and decision-making, differentiating itself with ontology-based AI and enterprise governance.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • 8VC posted Thorin hiring in January and May 2026, showing active product expansion.
  • Built In listed Thorin at 18 employees on October 1, 2026, still lean and focused.
  • Joe Lonsdale stayed deeply involved in product and hiring, per 8VC's May 2026 posting.

What critics are saying

  • Seed financing dates to January 2025, so Thorin faces a long enterprise sales cycle.
  • Microsoft Copilot, Slack AI, and ServiceNow target the same workflow layer.
  • If security teams reject broad Slack-email-doc access, Thorin's core data moat dies.

What makes Thorin unique

  • Thorin fuses ontology-first modeling with LLM orchestration across Slack, email, meetings, and documents.
  • Its 2026 pitch is a digital twin of organizational work, not single-task automation.
  • 8VC incubated Thorin in Build, giving Joe Lonsdale direct product influence and distribution.
