Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in food science, engineering, business administration, quality assurance, statistics, or a science field related to the consumer-packaged goods industry.
  • At least 7 years of progressive experience in quality, microbiology, technical services, laboratory operations, food safety, winery, brewery, beverage, distilled spirits, or food manufacturing environments.
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience managing quality teams.
  • Strong knowledge of quality standards, quality systems, process controls, and beverage manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, risk assessment, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Understanding of supplier quality management and quality auditing practices.
  • Knowledge of Food and Drug Administration, Food Safety Modernization Act, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Good Manufacturing Practices, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, and applicable food safety standards.
  • Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and quality reporting systems.
  • Ability to move up to 55 pounds.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods and work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor network production schedules and manage quality coverage for bottling operations.
  • Work with Quality and Technical Services leadership to align resources for laboratory operations and line support for scheduled bottling operations.
  • Define and lead production startup quality activities, validations, in-process checks, and final product releases to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards.
  • Develop tactical tools supporting production quality assurance procedures and processes specific to site operations, and train bottling staff.
  • Maintain proper documentation and control of quality records specific to site operations.
  • Oversee incoming material inspection, in-process checks, and final product inspection to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Approve and maintain inspection procedures and sampling plans as needed.
  • Lead root cause analyses and investigations and manage holds, releases, and rework plans for site production activities.
  • Collect right-first-time, rework, and related data to support quality key performance indicators across the network.
  • Manage Good Manufacturing Practices audits and sanitation activities tied to bottling operations.
  • Support startup, validation, and qualification activities for new equipment, products, and manufacturing processes.
  • Manage qualification of new suppliers and contract manufacturing operations as needed.
  • Manage quality relationships with lead contract manufacturing operations.
  • Direct resolution of field and consumer quality reports related to bottling activities.
  • Collect material and supplier quality data, upload it into Enablon, and support corrective and preventive action with the Quality Systems Manager.
  • Lead supplier qualification, performance monitoring, audits, corrective action management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with the Quality Systems Manager to establish quality requirements and supplier performance standards.
  • Analyze supplier quality data and drive improvements that reduce risk and improve product consistency.
  • Support food safety programs including hazard analysis, risk management, sanitation verification, environmental monitoring, and contamination prevention.
  • Lead quality support activities during regulatory inspections, audits, and customer visits.
  • Lead, coach, and develop quality personnel, including direct management of frontline production and packaging quality roles.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage departmental budgets, capital requests, and resource planning.
  • Mentor developing quality professionals across the organization.
Desired Qualifications
  • Direct experience managing wine production and packaging quality.
  • ASQ certifications, including Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Manager/Organizational Excellence, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
  • Previous experience in premium wine, distilled spirits, beverage alcohol, or food manufacturing industries.
  • Experience leading supplier quality programs and supplier audits.
  • Knowledge of sensory science and product quality evaluation.
  • Experience with statistical process control, data analytics, and quality trend analysis.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring programs and contamination prevention strategies.
  • Familiarity with global food safety and export requirements.
  • Experience leading quality transformations and continuous improvement initiatives.

Constellation Brands names Alex Alvarez beer supply chain chief

Constellation Brands has appointed Alex Alvarez as senior vice president and chief supply chain officer for its beer division, effective 14 September. He replaces John Kester, who is retiring in November after 12 years with the company. Alvarez brings over 30 years of experience in operations and supply chain management. Most recently, he spent three years as chief supply chain officer at Suntory Global Spirits, overseeing 18 distilleries globally. Before that, he worked at Brown-Forman for 16 years in various leadership roles. In his new role, Alvarez will oversee manufacturing, procurement, planning, logistics and distribution for Constellation's beer brands, including Corona and Modelo.

Diageo struggles while Constellation gains hedge fund favour despite sector headwinds

Jim Cramer has shifted his stance on the alcoholic beverage sector, showing cautious optimism for Constellation Brands whilst remaining bearish on Diageo. Its beer division generated $2.28 billion in sales, up 2% year-over-year, with a 39% operating margin. Management cited industry weakness and immigration policy impacts on its Hispanic customer base. Although executives noted World Cup tailwinds, they maintained full-year guidance of $11.20 to $11.90 per share rather than raising it, disappointing investors. Nicholas Fink took over as chief executive in April.

Constellation Brands beer sales rise 2% to $2.28B as wine segment posts operating loss

Constellation Brands reported mixed first-quarter fiscal 2027 results, with beer sales rising 2% to $2.28 billion whilst wine and spirits struggled. Beer shipments increased 1.8%, though depletions fell 0.3%. Brands like Pacifico and Victoria offset declines in Modelo Especial and Corona Extra. Wine and spirits segment sales dropped 47% to $149.2 million, primarily due to 2025 divestitures. Organic sales in the segment grew 8%, but it posted a $1.1 million operating loss. The company expects wine and spirits organic sales to remain flat for fiscal 2027.

Constellation Brands' beer sales dip despite World Cup boost to on-premise demand

Constellation Brands reported fiscal first-quarter net sales of $2.43 billion, down from $2.52 billion a year earlier but above analyst expectations of $2.39 billion. The US importer of Modelo and Corona saw profit rise to $653.8 million from $516.1 million year-over-year. The results come as the broader alcohol industry faces challenges, with a Gallup survey finding adult alcohol consumption hit an all-time low of 54% last year. However, rising aluminium prices pose margin pressures for beer manufacturers. The World Cup offers a bright spot: on-premise beer sales increased 5.5% nationally during the first 21 US-hosted matches, with sales in host markets climbing 15.4% year-over-year, according to Beer Institute data.
