About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience is required.
  • 6–7 years of experience in VMware virtualization and data center infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware HCX deployment and operations; HCX 4.x is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of Mobility Optimized Networking and how it prevents network tromboning on extended Layer 2 segments.
  • Strong NSX-T knowledge, including Tier-0 and Tier-1 routers, segments, and distributed firewall.
  • Familiarity with VMware vSphere, including ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, and DRS.
  • Understanding of Layer 2 network extension, VLAN stretching, and hybrid cloud networking.
  • Knowledge of HCX Enterprise licensing requirements for MON activation.
  • Proficiency in network troubleshooting, including packet capture, routing tables, and MTU/path analysis.
  • 15 years of full-time education.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability for complex hybrid cloud network issues.
  • Ability to collaborate across infrastructure, cloud, and network teams.
  • Customer-facing support experience, including Level 2/Level 3 escalation handling.
  • Clear documentation skills for runbooks and migration plans.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and configure VMware HCX Connector, HCX Manager, and Service Mesh appliances across source and destination sites.
  • Support bi-directional virtual machine migrations using vMotion, Bulk Migration, Cold Migration, and Replication Assisted vMotion.
  • Manage HCX site pairing, fleet upgrades, and appliance lifecycle operations.
  • Troubleshoot HCX interconnect, WAN optimization, and tunnel failures.
  • Configure and manage HCX Network Extension with Mobility Optimized Networking to enable migrated virtual machines to reach segments within the software-defined data center without sending packets back to the source environment router.
  • Set the target router location (cloud or on-premises) at per-virtual-machine granularity for vMotion- and Replication Assisted vMotion-migrated workloads.
  • Configure and validate Mobility Optimized Networking policy routes that define which traffic is routed through the source gateway versus the cloud gateway.
  • Diagnose and resolve network tromboning issues on Layer 2 extended segments.
  • Enable or disable Mobility Optimized Networking when stretching a network, on already extended networks, and for individual virtual machines residing on extended networks in the software-defined data center.
  • Ensure the NSX Tier-1 router is connected to a Tier-0 router in the cloud environment before enabling Mobility Optimized Networking, and that Layer 2 network extensions terminate correctly on Tier-1.
  • Validate NSX requirements for extended segments and troubleshoot gateway/DHCP IP conflicts.
  • Work with NSX-T constructs, including Tier-0/Tier-1 routers, segments, and distributed routing, in destination software-defined data center environments.
  • Support HCX deployments on VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure VMware Solution, or Google Cloud VMware Engine.
  • Ensure HCX Enterprise license activation for Mobility Optimized Networking features.
  • Coordinate with cloud platform teams on software-defined data center Compute Gateway configuration related to Mobility Optimized Networking.
  • Document runbooks and migration plans.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with VMware Cloud on AWS or Azure VMware Solution.
  • VMware certifications such as VCP-NV, VCP-DCV, VCAP, or HCX Specialist.
  • Exposure to the Broadcom/VMware support portal and knowledge-base troubleshooting.
  • Scripting skills for automation using PowerCLI, Python, or the HCX REST API.
  • Experience with FHRP (HSRP/VRRP) interactions with Mobility Optimized Networking, a known compatibility consideration in HCX 4.7 and later.
  • Familiarity with HCX High Availability for Network Extension appliances.
