Choose To Make A Difference
Summary:
SI is an academic support model that helps students succeed by using peer-led group study sessions. These sessions are free, out-of-class reviews for groups of 10–50 students to work together on course content, review material, and prepare for tests and quizzes. SI sessions are facilitated by SI leaders, who are students who have previously completed the course and have shown competency.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are WCU students who will facilitate weekly group study sessions in courses that they have successfully completed. SI Leaders receive training that provides them with the necessary knowledge and resources to lead group study sessions with students in their assigned subject area. They work closely with faculty to identify challenging course content to design sessions that utilize collaborative learning techniques to guide students through the content. Other responsibilities include attending lectures for the course they support, meeting regularly with the course faculty member, and sharing learning strategies that help students deepen their knowledge and understanding of course content. SI Leaders typically work 8-10 hours per week. SI at the Ontario campus will be launched in Anatomy for the FAII 2024 term, and other sciences in subsequent terms.
