PC shipments fall 21% to 57M units as AI servers drive up memory costs

Global PC shipments fell 21% year over year in the third quarter, to 57 million units, Counterpoint Research said on October 22, 2026. Rising memory and component costs pushed up PC prices and held back demand. AI servers use far more memory than PCs, so chipmakers are shifting capacity to server chips. TrendForce expects fourth-quarter DRAM contract prices to rise 10% to 15% and NAND flash prices 15% to 20%. HP shipped 10.3 million units, down 31%, the steepest drop among the top six vendors. Dell fell 25% to 7.6 million, and Lenovo fell 23% to 15.0 million. Dell has a $95 billion AI server backlog. Apple shipped 11% fewer Macs but raised its share to 9.8% from 8.7%. Counterpoint expects a 27% annual decline in the fourth quarter.

Infinity and HP double AI workload capacity on GB300-powered ZGX Fury without new hardware

Infinity, an automated AI research company, has teamed up with HP Inc to double the concurrent workloads and token throughput of NVIDIA's Nemotron 3 Super model on the HP ZGX Fury, without changing the hardware. The desktop machine runs on NVIDIA's GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip. In testing, the setup handled about twice as many concurrent requests at the same responsiveness threshold. Infinity delivered the first gain in under 24 hours of engineering work and has kept optimising since. Infinity's engineers tuned the inference stack using techniques from vLLM, NVIDIA TensorRT-LLM, and SGLang, plus their own methods. Gartner forecasts that global spending on AI inference will overtake spending on AI training this year, at $23.3 billion versus $19 billion. Infinity was founded in August 2025 and is backed by Touring Capital.

HP Partners with NVIDIA to Enhance AI Security Framework.

HP Partners with NVIDIA to Enhance AI Security Framework. HP is taking a significant step in enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) safety for small businesses by integrating NVIDIA's Open Agent Safety Platform into its AI infrastructure. This new initiative is designed to strengthen AI security across multiple sectors, including business sectors that depend on AI technologies for efficiency. The Open Agent Safety Platform provides a full-stack approach to AI safety, encompassing infrastructure, models, agent harnessing, runtime software, and robotic systems. This comprehensive framework is set to offer many benefits that small business owners need to consider as they navigate an increasingly digital landscape. One of the principal advantages of this initiative is the enhanced security it offers to small businesses. As more firms adopt AI-driven solutions for customer service, supply chain management, and data analytics, the risk of malicious cyber threats grows. By utilizing the Open Agent Safety Platform, small businesses can protect their sensitive data from potential breaches and ensure compliance with data protection regulations. For small businesses, this means less downtime and a higher return on investment from technological operations. By employing AI-driven analytics, businesses can gain insights into customer behavior and market trends more effectively, allowing for smarter inventory management and enhanced marketing strategies. However, integrating such advanced technology may come with challenges. Small businesses need to consider their current technical capabilities and whether they have the infrastructure to support this new platform. For businesses lacking IT resources, investing in cloud-based solutions may present a more economical option. Additionally, training employees to work within an AI-enhanced environment will be essential, necessitating time and financial resources to develop the necessary skill levels. Security and compliance assessment will also be crucial as small businesses start implementing these AI systems. They should consider evaluating their data management practices and ensure they align with new regulatory measures.
