Requirements
  • A Master of Science degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Embedded Systems, or a related field is required.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in low-level software or firmware development for embedded systems is required.
  • Strong proficiency in C and Python and experience shipping real systems on embedded Linux in robotics, automotive, or other hardware-adjacent environments are required.
  • Practical experience with hardware interfaces and protocols including I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, and MIPI-based camera interfaces is required.
  • Experience with board bring-up, serial consoles, flashing workflows, boot issues, hardware-near debugging, and systematic troubleshooting on real hardware is required.
  • Ability to make software deployable, maintainable, and robust under real-world conditions is required.
  • Experience validating low-level software on real hardware through structured debugging, integration testing, and release-oriented validation is required.
  • Ability to work in a demanding, high-intensity startup execution environment around critical milestones is required.
Responsibilities
  • Translate system needs into low-level software architecture and bring new boards and subsystems to life across Jetson, Arm, and STM32 platforms.
  • Develop and maintain drivers and hardware-facing software for sensors, cameras, AI accelerators, and communication networks.
  • Work across embedded Linux, the kernel, device-tree configuration, board support package-level integration, and board bring-up to create stable, maintainable foundations.
  • Build and refine flashing, booting, and serial deployment tooling for development, production, update, and recovery workflows.
  • Debug on the bench, isolate failures, improve performance and stability, and iterate until systems are ready for field use.
  • Support system integration across aircraft platforms, work closely with hardware engineers, and continuously improve performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Own the low-level software foundation across embedded platforms, including bring-up, driver development, deployment tooling, and in-field update infrastructure.
  • Enable sensors, cameras, AI accelerators, and networked peripherals across diverse compute platforms and turn prototypes into robust, fieldable systems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with secure boot, signed update systems, rollback and recovery strategies, or other security-critical deployment infrastructure.
  • Experience with Yocto-based build systems, custom Linux image creation, and U-Boot.
  • Experience with ROS and related robotics middleware.
  • Experience with camera bring-up and Linux media pipelines, including GStreamer.
  • Experience integrating AI accelerators or other high-performance compute peripherals.
  • Experience with UAVs, robotics, defense systems, or other hardware tested outside the lab.

The startup emerged from stealth with the announcement. Founded in 2026 by CEO Lukas Kostler, Chief Science Officer Daniel Cremers and CTO Simon Klenk, SE3 Labs develops spatial AI technology for autonomous systems. Its platform combines proprietary hardware with AI and natural language interfaces to help autonomous drones, unmanned ground vehicles and robotic swarms navigate complex environments. The company targets defense, public safety and industrial applications. The funding will support continued development of its spatial AI platform and scaling for defense and industrial clients.

SE3 Labs has emerged from stealth with spatial AI technology for autonomous systems, backed by Lakestar, Seedcamp, EWOR, and others including Sequoia Scout Fund and UnternehmerTUM Funding for Innovators. The company builds software combining navigation, perception and AI reasoning to enable drones and robots to operate independently in contested environments. SE3's platform is hardware-agnostic and runs on-edge, delivering GPS-denied navigation through visual-inertial odometry and real-time mapping. The system creates a shared 3D operating picture across swarms, allowing natural language control by a single operator. Founded by Lukas Koestler, Simon Klenk and Daniel Cremers, the team has produced over 400 scientific publications. SE3 already has contracts with the German Bundeswehr and participates in military exercises across Europe, reportedly reducing sensor-to-shooter timelines by an order of magnitude.

This is important so that they not only fly and film but also react to terrain and potential changes and adjust maneuvers. "Our technology is already being used," says SE3 Labs co-founder Lukas Köstler to Handelsblatt. The interview is intended as the first step toward the public, which SE3 Labs has previously avoided in order to work on the technology in peace. In the meantime, SE3 Labs has already won its first customers, including the Bundeswehr and other armed forces. Demand for spatial AI, i.e., spatial intelligence of systems, is likely to increase drastically in the future. GPS is susceptible to interference and only provides rough location data outdoors. Autonomous systems need a better understanding of space, especially when they are supposed to fly in swarms. SE3 Labs is developing a hardware-independent software solution for autonomous systems in the air and on the ground. "This is a new way in which the 3D world can be perceived by machines," says Köstler.

Taufkirchen/Berlin (Germany), 09 June 2026 - HENSOLDT and SE3 Labs, a Munich-based technology company specialising in spatial artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, have signed a memorandum of understanding at the ILA Berlin. The agreement sets out the framework for strategic cooperation in the field of spatial and agentic AI. The cooperation focuses on integrating SE3 Labs' AI capabilities into HENSOLDT's MDOcore platform for automated data processing. SE3 Labs develops AI models that use large language models and advanced computer vision technology to generate interpretable insights from sensor data in real time. These capabilities are set to become an integral part of MDOcore in future, thereby expanding the scope of HENSOLDT's offering in the field of multi-domain operations.
