Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor or Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor credential (LADC I, LADC II, CADC I, or CADC II) in Massachusetts is required.
  • Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport Persons Served.
  • A valid driver's license is required; personal-vehicle users must maintain adequate insurance and a safe driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and have maintained a valid United States driver's license for at least six months.
  • Must be able to pass a driver's screening background check.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or a two-person lift, operate office equipment, assist Persons Served with activities of daily living, and communicate with Persons Served, staff, and external representatives.
  • Must obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification within the first two weeks of hire.
  • Must obtain First Aid certification within two weeks of hire.
  • Must obtain Medication Administration Program certification within 150 days of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Screen, assess, and reassess substance use, addiction risk, and addiction treatment needs using the Simple Screening Instrument for Substance Abuse and other assessments in group living environments and outreach settings.
  • Develop formulations addressing substance use level and potential risk, current substance or addictive-behavior impact, and each Person Served's readiness for change.
  • Provide direct interventions and supports to Persons Served experiencing substance misuse or addiction, regardless of residence.
  • Apply trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, person-centered, culturally competent, and strengths-based approaches and skills-training techniques.
  • Provide evidence-based addiction-treatment interventions, including Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Harm Reduction, Relapse Prevention, the Simple Screening Instrument for Substance Abuse, Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral and Treatment, Seeking Safety, Wellness Recovery Action Plans, Cognitive Behavioral interventions, Safety Plans, Crisis Prevention and Response Plans, and the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.
  • Refer Persons Served and coordinate with Care Coordination entities to promote access to Medication-Assisted Treatment, Dual Recovery groups, and psychoeducational services addressing substance misuse and related issues.
  • Provide addiction-treatment psychoeducational services individually and in groups.
  • Participate as a member of the intervention team for assigned Persons Served.
  • Train, mentor, model, and supervise staff in evidence-based addiction-treatment and clinical recovery-oriented interventions.
  • Document Persons Served needs and services thoroughly.
  • Promote engagement, safe housing, community tenure, greater self-sufficiency, and successful service completion.
  • Promote access to healthcare, employment, and education services.
  • Coordinate with Care Coordination entities to ensure access to community-based acute addiction treatment, Medication-Assisted Treatment, self-help and peer support, psychoeducational services, and relapse-prevention services.
  • Participate in the Addiction Recovery Counselor Community of Practice Workgroup for licensure, role-specific supervision, competency development, mentoring, and learning.
  • Receive regularly scheduled, role-based clinical supervision from the Assistant Team Leader.
  • Transport Persons Served when required and perform other related assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Clinical experience working with people with co-occurring disorders or addictions is preferred.
  • Preference is given to bilingual or bicultural applicants.
  • Preference is given to applicants with lived experience of psychiatric conditions.
