Requirements
  • The candidate must be licensed in Virginia or hold a valid multistate compact license issued by their primary state of residence.
Responsibilities
  • Triage incoming patients by obtaining vital signs, following standing triage orders, reconciling medication lists and allergies, verifying immunizations are up to date, and preparing patients for visits.
  • Complete delegated tasks from the current and prior day, including patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health requests, medication prior authorizations, patient forms, and physician follow-up, ensuring tasks are reviewed, addressed, and appropriately marked before the end of each business day.
  • Assist physicians with examinations, minor surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and treatments, and provide basic patient care and education as directed by providers and standing orders.
  • Coordinate services with specialists, including radiation oncology, pulmonary, endocrinology, nutritional counseling, nephrology, dermatology, and social services, and document correspondence and interventions in EPIC.
  • Provide patient education and information as instructed by providers and outlined in department clinic protocols.
  • Sterilize equipment and supplies.
  • Fill, fax, and copy materials as requested.
  • Prepare correspondence, forms, and letters for patients and faculty as requested.
  • Oversee and assist with day-to-day patient care, including taking vital signs, administering medications and treatments, assisting physicians, performing wound care, educating patients, documenting care, coordinating services, supporting patient comfort, and contributing to quality initiatives.
  • Assist with training new staff and serve as a point of contact for medical assistants.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing, surgery, plastic surgery, and/or oncology is preferred.
