About the job
- Ability to troubleshoot issues with plastic components, including gas traps, voids, weld lines, and pin push.
- Ability to disassemble, assemble, inspect, repair, clean, and polish plastic injection molds, including diagnosing flashing, galling, venting, and cooling problems.
- Ability to understand blueprints, sketches, and general instructions for disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and assembling plastic injection molds.
- Ability to perform critical mold assembly operations, refit and re-vent molds, and make adjustments to meet designed objectives.
- Ability to operate machine shop equipment, including mills, surface grinders, and lathes.
- Ability to construct and repair machine shop tools, gauges, fixtures, jigs, and dies.
- Ability to solve problems involving unusual materials, work-holding arrangements, machine settings, fabrication methods, and production processes.
- Ability to repair mold cavities and cores damaged by wear or other causes.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair hot runner systems across brands.
- Ability to complete engineering changes and revisions to molds.
- Ability to manufacture new mold components and repair existing components.
- Ability to interpret drawings and evaluate machining methods, following instructions from the Toolroom Supervisor for intricate machining setups.
- Ability to perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
- Ability to recommend design revisions or material substitutions based on machinability or fabrication problems.
- Ability to stone and polish mold components.
- Ability to follow documented procedures and standards and work independently with little supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment to meet delivery requirements.
- Ability to communicate clearly with teams and upper management and work effectively with them.
- Ability to report to work and the assigned workstation on time.
- Maintain and repair plastic injection molds to support manufacturing and achieve quality standards.
- Answer technical questions from Manufacturing departments as required.
- Maintain equipment maintenance and repair history records, including details of work performed, parts replaced, and labor hours.
- Provide guidance and training to lower-level technicians.
- Experience with electrical discharge machining, computer numerical control, or welding.
