Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong clerical skills, including keyboarding and basic math.
  • Computer knowledge and the ability to use a calculator.
  • The mental ability to conduct interviews, reconcile encounter reports, and conduct audits with better-than-average attention to detail.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish language ability.
  • The ability to perform the essential functions of the position and meet its attendance requirements.

  • The ability to deliver excellent customer service internally and externally.
Responsibilities
  • Establish and update patient accounts in the computer system using names, aliases, family members, Social Security numbers, and account numbers.
  • Enter charges for self-pay, insurance, and eligibility programs; reconcile charges at the end of each day and maintain error-free daily balance sheets.
  • Determine patient eligibility for special programs, including Methodist Healthcare Ministries and other programs.
  • Assist patients and visitors who walk into the clinic and answer telephones while identifying oneself and the clinic name.
  • Verify current insurance status using the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership and Availity, including understanding Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, and eligibility programs.
  • Schedule patient appointments according to established protocols.
  • Enter encounters, maintain logs, and process referrals and outreach paperwork; review and update household financial and demographic information annually.
  • Conduct intake interviews for all new patients using a standard registration form and confirm homelessness; periodically review and update patient registration and demographic information.
  • Assemble necessary medical and dental record forms for specific patient categories and initiate encounter forms as needed.
  • Follow up on no-shows as directed by the provider.
  • Maintain the required uniform, name tag, and appearance standards.
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist clinical teams in patient assessment through observation and notify the clinician in an emergency.
  • Follow agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Joint Commission compliance standards in the Employee Safety Handbook.
  • Participate in the agency Quality Improvement Program.
  • Assist with outreach activities and perform other duties assigned by the director or supervisor.
