Requirements
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development and the impact of trauma and attachment on the development of children’s mental illness and wellbeing.
- Training and experience using play-based modalities such as play therapy.
- A Master's degree in psychology, social work with psycho-social intervention designation, occupational therapy, or nursing.
- A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
- Membership in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists, Alberta College of Social Workers, or College of Alberta Psychologists.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office products, including their application to formal writing.
- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check.
- Maintenance of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention certification and the physical ability to perform all interventions.
- A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments of assigned children and youth and develop individualized and family treatment plans in conjunction with the primary team.
- Develop treatment plans and formulate diagnoses, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR or other diagnostic tools as appropriate.
- Provide therapeutic interventions to support patients in achieving therapeutic goals using developmentally appropriate treatment approaches.
- Arrange and facilitate transition meetings with community schools before patient discharge from the program.
- Carry out case management functions, including convening case conferences and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the youth and family.
- Complete written discharge summaries for a referring therapist and psychiatrist after patient discharge to support continuity of care.
- Co-facilitate parent support groups and multi-family therapy groups using psychoeducational and/or psychodynamic approaches and evidence-based modalities such as DBT, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support clinical service delivery, treatment planning, interventions, and discharge transitions.
- Nurture collaborative relationships with community partners.
