About the Job

Requirements

  • A PhD in molecular biology, bioengineering, genetics, cell biology, immunology, or a related field is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience with demonstrated impact in experimental molecular and cellular biology is required.
  • At least 2 years of post-PhD experience is required for the Scientist position.
  • Demonstrated experience with mouse models and tissue processing is required.
  • Hands-on experience with molecular cloning, genetic engineering, or genetic perturbation approaches is required.
  • Experience designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex experimental workflows is required.
  • The candidate must be able to independently design, execute, and interpret experiments.
  • An interest in applying engineering and functional genomics approaches to understand complex biological systems is required.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating immune cell responses and interactions within tissue microenvironments.
  • Design and perform in vivo experiments using mouse models.
  • Characterize immune cell differentiation, function, and interactions with other cells.
  • Apply advanced experimental approaches, including molecular biology, single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and genetic perturbation technologies.

  • Collaborate with experimental and computational scientists across Biohub to integrate cellular, molecular, and spatial datasets.
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments independently.
  • Present scientific findings at meetings and conferences and prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Contribute to the scientific development of the laboratory and mentor junior researchers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with scalable genetic perturbation approaches, including pooled CRISPR screens, in vivo perturbation strategies, or functional genomics.
  • Experience studying immune cell differentiation, activation, migration, or effector function.
  • Experience with mouse disease models.
  • Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, or other high-dimensional genomic technologies.
  • Experience with molecular cloning, viral vector engineering, or genetic manipulation of mammalian cells.
  • Experience with advanced flow cytometry, cell sorting, or imaging techniques.
  • Experience analyzing high-dimensional immunological datasets.

About the Company

Biohub

Nonprofit research center advancing diagnostics

CZ Biohub is a nonprofit research center that unites physicians, scientists, and engineers from Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UCSF to study how diseases work and to develop new tools for diagnosing and treating them. Its work combines basic science with engineering to create technologies that can be used to understand disease better and translate discoveries into actionable diagnostics and effective therapies. Unlike for-profit firms that focus on commercial products, CZ Biohub relies on collaboration across universities and disciplines to push fundamental research toward real-world medical applications. The goal is to advance science and build practical solutions that improve patient care by identifying how diseases occur and turning those insights into tests, devices, or therapies.
