About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in product testing, test engineering, or R&D engineering within a regulated industry, including direct experience testing physical hardware prototypes.
  • Ability to independently develop test protocols, execute test programs, and generate compliant test reports for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with bench-level instrumentation, including pressure gauges, flow meters, multimeters, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, and power supplies.
  • Experience with fluid system testing, including pressure characterization, leak detection, and flow measurement.
  • Working knowledge of medical device design controls, including 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, and ISO 14971.
  • Practical experience with failure analysis techniques and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Strong technical writing skills to author clear, complete, and audit-ready test documentation.
  • Ability to stand and work at benches for extended periods during test execution, fixture builds, and failure analysis.
  • Ability to lift and handle prototypes, test fixtures, and equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to comply with laboratory safety protocols, personal protective equipment requirements, and standards applicable to the work area.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary test engineer for R&D prototypes across active development programs by designing and executing engineering test protocols that evaluate performance, functionality, safety, and reliability against defined design requirements.
  • Build, qualify, and maintain test fixtures, jigs, and custom laboratory setups to assess prototype performance across mechanical, fluid, electromechanical, and energy-based subsystems.
  • Conduct hands-on bench testing, including pressure and flow characterization, electrical safety screening, mechanical load and fatigue testing, thermal performance evaluation, and first-article comparative assessments.
  • Develop test methods to address gaps in test coverage as new prototype configurations, device modalities, and functional subsystems are introduced across the R&D program portfolio.
  • Lead root cause investigations and failure analysis on prototype anomalies and out-of-specification results, applying structured methodologies such as 5-Why and Ishikawa, and communicate findings to design engineers to drive improvements.
  • Author test protocols, test reports, engineering evaluation memos, and laboratory notebooks in compliance with design control procedures, 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, and applicable standards including IEC 60601-1 and ISO 14971.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, firmware, systems, Quality, and Regulatory teams to align testing strategy with program milestones and support design transfer and qualification planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Perform sustained hands-on prototype testing, fixture operation, and instrumentation work in a bench-centric R&D role.
  • Work with systems involving pressurized fluid, electrical energy, elevated temperatures, or mechanical loading as part of routine test activities in a controlled, safety-compliant environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience testing electromechanical medical devices or capital equipment in a medical aesthetics, dermatology, or consumer health device environment.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety testing standards, including IEC 60601-1, and electromagnetic compatibility standards such as IEC 60601-1-2.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent computer-aided design tools for fixture design.
  • Experience coordinating with external test laboratories for third-party compliance or verification testing.
  • Exposure to Design FMEA and Use FMEA methodologies and risk management processes under ISO 14971.
  • Ability to safely work with systems involving high voltage, pressurized fluid, elevated temperatures, or optical energy in a controlled laboratory environment.

About the company

Hydrafacial is a skincare brand under The Beauty Health Company (ticker SKIN) that sells a non-surgical facial treatment used by professionals. Its core device uses Vortex-Fusion technology with a spiral tip and vacuum to cleanse, exfoliate, extract impurities, and hydrate the skin in one session. The treatment is a customizable three-step process (cleansing, a gentle chemical peel with salicylic and glycolic acids, and vacuum-assisted extraction with serum infusion) that takes about 30 minutes. The business follows a razor-and-blades model: Hydrafacial sells the proprietary delivery systems (the

Hydrafacial launches two new treatment enhancers for personalised skincare

Hydrafacial has launched two new treatment enhancers designed to expand personalisation options for its skincare treatments. The HydraGlow Pre-Extraction Peel prepares skin for more effective extractions using exfoliating acids, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid. The Hydralock HA Biocellulose Mask hydrates and soothes the skin barrier whilst providing a cooling sensation suitable for LED light therapy. Both products integrate into existing Hydrafacial treatment protocols, allowing providers to customise treatments based on individual skin needs. In a split-face study, the pre-extraction peel improved skin exfoliation by nearly two times and enhanced extractions across all Fitzpatrick skin types. All participants reported healthier, more radiant-looking skin and indicated they would request the treatment again. The new enhancers are part of SkinHealth Systems' strategy to expand treatment personalisation options for providers.
