Behavioral Specialist - Youth Recovery Home

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this position supervises the residents of the MIT Health Division’s Youth Recovery Home (YRH), which is a 24/7 residential facility for youth, providing a positive drug and alcohol free environment that promotes healthy transitions to independent living.  This position will assess residents’ needs, monitor daily living activities, and engage in behavior modification techniques to achieve resident-plan goals.

• Overnight  Shift 12am-8am  

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises the residents of the MIT Health Division’s Youth Recovery Home (YRH). Assesses the needs of the YRH residents and engages in behavior modification techniques to achieve resident-plan goals.  Monitors resident’s daily living activities ensuring their safety and compliance with YRH rules.

Works closely with YRH Supervisor in developing a behavioral level system designed to reinforce healthy behaviors and reduce negative behaviors.

Provides education and activities to residents to promote positive social skills, independent living skills, and healthy peer relationships.

Provides life coaching around various developmental challenges. Ensures appropriate referrals are made to Licensed Mental Health and Chemical Dependency professionals when deemed appropriate.

Works with external agencies such as schools, employers, Muckleshoot Child & Family Services (MCFS), the court system, treatment providers, etc. to assist resident in meeting their goals.

Participates in relevant team meetings to ensure a comprehensive and collaborative approach to resident care. Participates in case management with other staff and YRH Supervisor.

Documents services as deemed necessary by the YRH Supervisor. Documents and tracks resident progress toward their stated goals.

Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all protected health information in accordance with the Division’s Policies and Procedures, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities, and may include driving.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, or a related behavioral science discipline from an accredited college or university.  Two (2) years of youth residential treatment experience required.  An additional two (2) years (four years in total) may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.  Training in childhood development, social services, child psychology, conflict resolution, behavior modification, milieu treatment, and chemical dependency required.

Special Requirements:  A current negative TB test and/or medical documentation stating employee is not contagious.  Must have no substance abuse for the past three (3) years and pass UA testing.  Must pass pre-employment criminal background check.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Knowledge of: Childhood development models and child psychology. Milieu treatment and behavioral level systems. Behavior modification techniques. Conflict resolution with adolescents. Native American culture and how culture pertains to treatment.  Social service systems.

Skilled in: Behavior modification techniques. Conflict resolution. Communicating in both oral and written forms.  Advocating for residents’ needs. Utilizing computers for developing documents, recording data, researching, and communicating with other staff.

Ability to:  Remain calm in a crisis. Give oral presentations effectively.  Develop resident-plans to identify their goals and track progress.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, lift, push, pull, and talk or hear; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.                        

Licenses or Certifications Required

A current and valid Washington State Driver’s license and CPR certification

Compensation: 27.75 to 41.62 (USD)
