About the job
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or have equivalent experience, subject to state regulation requirements.
- Six months of experience working in a physician’s office is desired.
- Urology experience is desired.
- Medical Assistant certification or registration is preferred.
- Be comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment and providing care in a high-volume setting serving approximately 150–200 patients per day.
- Be available for shifts beginning between 6:30 AM and 8:30 AM and work until approximately 5:00 PM–6:00 PM.
- Have reliable transportation and be willing and able to assist occasionally at other locations.
- Be comfortable assisting with direct patient care, urologic procedures, catheter care, and other clinical responsibilities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of healthcare systems operations, including electronic medical records and practice management solutions.
- Be able to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
- Have project management, vendor relations when applicable, and database management skills.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office programs and applications.
- Comply with HIPAA requirements for patient confidentiality.
- Meet the stated physical demands, including frequent carrying of 1–25 pounds and occasional carrying of 26–50 pounds.
- Perform administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the assigned supervisor.
- Confer with physicians, nursing staff, and other personnel to coordinate and schedule patient appointments.
- Perform additional office responsibilities that encompass at least 50% of daily work time.
- Greet and prepare patients; measure and record vital signs; and record patient interviews, histories, and chief complaints.
- Educate patients about medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
- Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests; assist physicians with examinations.
- Perform phlebotomy, collect laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests and EKGs.
- Assist with X-ray and physician therapy procedures; prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
- Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, perform other first-aid procedures, and use CPR skills when necessary.
- Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
- Open the office in the morning and close it in the afternoon.
- Maintain patient logs for laboratory requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders, and maintain the prescription ledger when needed.
- Maintain back-office patient flow, keep rooms full, and assist with room turnover.
- Complete new-patient workups, including X-rays, vital signs, and explanation of new-patient packets; add medical history for new patients and update established patient histories.
- Set up examination rooms for physicians and ensure patient medications are updated before physician visits.
- Set up in-office surgical procedures and ensure consent forms are completed accurately without excessive medical abbreviations.
- Scribe as assigned based on physician office flow.
- Prepare for the following day’s patients, including confirming next-day visits.
- Complete patient medical record requests when necessary.
- Assist with orienting and training new personnel and with other administrative projects and tasks as needed.
- Ensure appropriate handoff of responsibilities when tasks are completed.
- Meet attendance expectations, start work promptly, and be punctual and dependable for assigned shifts.
- Respect the organization’s commitment to cultural diversity through behavior, language, and actions; use time and resources consistently.
- Follow human resources and corporate policies and procedures; maintain accurate and complete medical records; and comply with healthcare regulations, medical laws, and ethical standards.
- Support compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned, including OSHA, HIPAA, and CMS Parts C and D guidance on general compliance and fraud, waste, and abuse.
- Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program with a completed externship may qualify the candidate for the MA 2 level.
- Candidates without an accredited Medical Assistant certificate or diploma may be considered for the MA 1 level and trained for success.

IR Centers and Michigan Institute of Urology are expanding their collaboration to a third outpatient interventional radiology lab in Southeast Michigan. The expansion adds capacity for minimally invasive therapies and welcomes board-certified interventional radiologist Jeremy Handel, who brings over two decades of experience. The program, building on existing operations in Troy, will offer image-guided procedures for conditions including benign prostatic hyperplasia, pelvic venous disorders, and musculoskeletal conditions. The expansion aims to reduce wait times and extend access to alternatives to traditional surgery. "Expansion in Michigan is a direct response to patient need and our shared belief that advanced, image-guided care belongs close to the communities it serves," said Dr Sandeep Bagla, chief executive officer of IR Centers. IR Centers operates in more than 30 markets across the US, partnering with specialty practices to deliver interventional radiology services in outpatient settings.
In November, Michiganurology expanded its men's and women's sexual wellness services by opening its specialty clinic, REDEEM.
The Michigan Institute of Urology is partnering with Prostate Centers USA and opening IR Centers at MIU, a dedicated outpatient medical center for interventional radiology procedures in Troy.
