Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required, ideally in an academic setting.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of research administration, preferably in an academic institution's clinical research setting, is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial principles, Medicare regulations, healthcare reimbursement principles, and laws and regulations guiding clinical research is required.
  • The ability to efficiently research complex information and use it to establish and improve work processes, reporting, and data analysis is required.
  • The ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations is required.
  • The ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others is required.
  • The ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others is required.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant proposal submissions.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and negotiate research agreements, evaluating the terms and conditions of research grants and contracts from government, foundation, corporate, and other sources, and establish financial, legal, and other contractual terms.
  • Oversee staff responsible for creating compliant billing grids for clinical research projects when required to maintain billing compliance.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and negotiate applicable research contract and grant budgets, focusing on clinical care pricing and fair market value for government, foundation, corporate, and industry sources.
  • Interact with Office of Research Administration personnel, Principal Investigators, study teams, Compliance, the Institutional Review Board and Human Subject Research Office, Technology Transfer, Risk Management, and other relevant offices to ensure efficient research initiation consistent with University policies and procedures and compliant, fiscally sound applications.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of applicable Office of Management and Budget circulars, National Institutes of Health Policy Statement, and other applicable regulations.
  • Leverage real-time dashboards to monitor team performance and ensure the team meets or exceeds Service Level Agreement key performance indicators.
  • Drive a culture of accountability by basing team performance assessments on measurable data.
  • Identify process inefficiencies through data analysis and suggest or implement improvements.
  • Provide regular updates and status reports to senior management by tracking relevant data using University systems and other tools, including output and turnaround-time metrics.
  • Oversee, train, and mentor staff on the assigned team.
  • Partner with other departments to facilitate transparent and accountable research administration and coordinate documentation and approval processes.
  • Maintain effective relationships with sponsor representatives to facilitate communication.
  • Establish and continuously assess the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensure employees are trained on controls and University policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Research Administrator, Certified Financial Research Administrator, or Certified Human Research Coordinator is preferred.
