Requirements
  • A Master's degree is required; an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently is required.
  • Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canvas, and CAMS is required.
  • Stamina to teach classes as required is required.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods is required.
  • Regular attendance is required.
Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars.
  • Clearly communicate learning goals and assessment methods, conduct organized course sessions, and facilitate reflection, discussion, and application of subject information.
  • Use examples and illustrations to explain difficult concepts, adjust instruction when students experience learning difficulties, and help students develop problem-solving skills.
  • Provide feedback on tests and assignments and use assessment results to provide extra help or extended learning opportunities.
  • Establish a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Hold all classes as scheduled and begin and end classes punctually.
  • Follow university policies, procedures, and rules and report violations or inappropriate student conduct to the appropriate university official.
  • Distribute the syllabus to enrolled students by the first class meeting and follow the established course schedule, providing written notice of substantial changes when needed.
  • Require use of course texts to an extent that warrants purchase.
  • Provide students with reasonable and timely assistance with course assignments and assessments.
  • Administer an exam or other evaluative activity during the scheduled final exam time for every course.
  • Determine final grades according to the method prescribed in the syllabus.
  • Mentor students by promoting volunteer, research, tutoring, résumé-building, leadership, university-resource, problem-solving, citizenship, and healthy-lifestyle opportunities.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and creative endeavors that contribute to the university's academic mission.
  • Supervise laboratories, independent study activities, practicums, internships, and other off-campus learning.
  • Participate in shared governance, university events and initiatives, co-curricular activities, and recruiting.
  • Coordinate work behavior with colleagues and contribute to effective collaboration.
  • Complete other duties and requirements assigned by the dean.
